An Interview with Cory Massi
Please tell the audience something about you that would surprise them.
Good Evening. There is not that much about me that I haven't revealed in the last 20 years. Good or Bad. However, I'll try. I am moved emotionally by God-given talent. By beauty. By generosity of spirit. I love the written word. I admire people that are completely open. Sarcasm is only a costume I wear. Humor is my weapon of choice.
How do you rate yourself as a guitar player?
If anything, what would've you have changed about your musical career?
I would have started writing at a much younger age. I didn't have the confidence then that I do now. I would have played anywhere and everywhere. I would've made thoughtful decisions borne out of a solid plan. I would not have hidden from success. Honestly, I always loved recording but, my interest in rock n' roll was always the MOMENT INSIDE THE PERFORMANCE. Once that moment passed, the magic was over for me. It was all onstage. And, what was precious to me was that feeling we had inside my band LOW. 4 of the 5 of 'em had been involved in huge acts. They knew how to grab an audience. That was the drug, man.
If you were given the power to cure a social disease, which one would you choose? And why?
Closed Mindedness. There are always new things to learn about ourselves and the world we live in. And, we are often WRONG. It's incumbent upon EVERYONE to look in the mirror and say I WAS WRONG. I didn't understand that black guy. I didn't understand what the jews went through. To grow, you have to be open to the possibility that what you were taught, what you have lived with in your heart and soul maybe your whole life was WRONG. Accept it. And, go forward.
