Biography

Cosmic Genie
Member name: John Wlaysewski

“After hearing so many young local musicians lauded beyond their actual talent, here’s the opposite: someone we heard next to nothing about who has got something.”
-Jack Rabid, Publisher and Editor of The Big Takeover (issue 51) reviews JohnWlaysewski’s 10 song demo (Under the band name Compass Rose)

Born and raised in Queens, New York, Guitar player and lead singer John Wlaysewski knew he was different around 5 years old when he realized his parents did not look like him. Adopted in 1974 from Vietnam by an Irish Ex-Nun and a Polish Sanitation Man, John was raised without the crutch of fanatical ethnic identification and learned sooner than most that it is individual accomplishment and not nationality that define a persons worth.
Subconscious feelings of alienation and lack of identity color the duos music and lyrics with a certain melancholy, even while much of the music is tight, peppy singer/songwriter rock with clever lyrics about relationships, fear of inadequacy, and self-realization.
Two Minorities continues John’s long history of writing and performing music, which is catchy and instantly likeable while pushing the envelope of sonic creativity for the more music minded in the audience.
With 10 years of performing and composing behind him, John has nothing to prove, but plenty more to say.
