Passionate vocals. Stirring lyrics. Floor-shaking percussion. The Cosmic Jibaros have redefined the Latin rock band, building from Latin and Caribbean rhythms and adding funked up guitars and accordion flourishes for a sound that’s both cross-cultural and highly danceable. There’s the irresistible pull of traditional bomba beats in interplays between the congas and timbales mixed with urban elements in the deep drum and bass and effects-laden guitar work. While the songs, laced with social and political overtones, are sung primarily in Spanish by charismatic front man Ricardo Reyes, the seven-piece group is equally at home performing in a rock venue or on a festival stage as in a Spanish Harlem club. It’s the beats that draw dancers forward to move their hips, whatever their age or ethnicity. It’s the emphasis on structured songs that build to pulsing, sweaty heights, and skilled musicians who draw on backgrounds as diverse as gospel (drummer Christopher Stanley), Latin, Jazz and World music (Conguero Carlos Go Go Gomez) rock (bassist Juan Carlos Vega), ); funk, Latin Jazz (percussionist Johnny Durkin); Soul, Rock, and blues (guitarist Darian Cunning) and pop-rock (keyboard player/accordionist Tony Senes). And it’s lead singer Ricardo Reyes’ sincerity and stage presence, the way he pours his emotions into his songs and makes the heart beat faster.

Cosmic Jibaros hail from Bridgeport and have performed in many local events: First Night 2006 New Years and a special Bridgeport appearance of Puerto Rican Singer/songwriter, political and cultural activist and folk musician, Roy Brown. They headlined two Hurricane Katrina Benefits and performed at the WPKN Benefit Concert. They won the Fairfield County Weekly's Band Grand Slam, Best Latin Band, 3 years in a row, and Hartford County Weekly Band Slam to their accolades. Currently supporting their first Album “Yo Soy Del Mundo” they can be found performing from Hartford to New York City.
