"This is our jam - Cosmo V"

A lot of the fun of watching a Quentin Tarantino film (at least for me) is in the soundtrack. Inglorious Basterds recontextualized David Bowie’s “Cat People (Putting Out the Fire),” Death Proof turned April March’s “Chick Habit” into a girl-power anthem, and Pulp Fiction changed the way we thought of Dick Dale and the Del-Tone’s “Miserlou” forever. All of those songs told their own story with as much visceral force and imagination as the images they accompanied. Cosmo V’s “With the Wild Beasts," is exactly the sort of song that would fit into a Tarantino movie—the track envelopes the listener completely in its own hazy narrative. The Dutch solo artist refers to her brand of minimal dreampop as “sleazy lo-fi,” a description that feels only sort of accurate for the sultry and sparse “With the Wild Beasts.” While the song is indeed a bit seedy (it sounds tailor-made for some decaying tropical lounge), “With the Wild Beasts” is certainly not under-produced. Humidity and heat ripple off of a surf-rock bassline that undulates under breathy vocals. At first listen, Cosmo V’s voice sounds a lot like Lykke Li, but there’s an edge to “With the Wild Beasts” that is less emotional and more cool than the sound Lykke Li usually goes for, but is equally dangerous and coy. Dark, psychedelic, sexy, and mysterious, the track stands up just fine on its own, but I can’t help but imagine Michael Madsen smoking a cuban as Cosmo V plays in the background. Tarantino, if you’re reading this, you owe me one. - Refinery 29

"Cosmo V- “V” Easy Tapes re-release"

Easy Tapes is stoked to re-release ‘V’ by Cosmo V, a tasty collection of sultry, sexy dreampop tunes that make up a pretty lovely soundtrack to everything you could do just before falling asleep. Though Dutch-born Cosmo refers to her style as ’sleazy lo-fi,’ V packs a surprising amount of polish.

These tracks strike a nice balance between a late-night dance party and its inevitable comedown, a gorgeous and smooth pop-dreamscape that echoes into the wee hours, all sewn together by the winds of ethereal vocals. Featuring soundscapes and sonic journeys reminiscent of jj, the xx, and Lykke Li, Cosmo’s EP is a super high-quality gift of bedroom music that, sleazy or not, will go down smooth every time. - Sick of the radio

"Cosmo V: “This Is How the Brave Man Lives”"

The pals at our new favorite Sacramento, California and Sick of the Radio-affiliated imprint Easy Tapes who had blessed us with Olin’s rad and highly recommended self-titled EP recently are at it again already with the release of V, the debut of Utrecht, Netherlands-based artist Cosmo V. Seriously stoked right now on this minimalistic yet sultry take on dream pop with some subtle hints of The XX and JJ that’s simply spot-on for every sleazy summer late night jam. - No Fear of Pop

"Cosmo V"

As the sun lovingly pummels your humble back, you wipe away the pooling sweat that formed a trail on your face. Intent to finish what you had started, your cruel and vicious assignment, you toil away under the cruelty of the heat. The slapping singeing stings your milky white skin continuously as you carry out your chore. With each sound of striking metal, you breathe a little heavier - observing the falling residue. Little by little, the inner core is exposed - deathly instrumentation waved wildly like a manic maestro. Your hands begin to move swiftly, quickening your pace as the end is in sight. Severed limbs, shattered skin, torn and artistically trimmed from the body, fall by your feet. And with the final snip, you step back to admire your hard work. Spirited surgeon. Contented clipper.

Cosmo-V creates lo-fi, garage rock influenced, vexing tracks. With only 4 songs on the EP, “V”, there is still quite a surprising amount of variation. Part electronic, part garage noir, there is a sort of shyness - a hesitation that wants so desperately to break free. Vocals hushed and squeaked, seem to weave through drum claps, serpentine guitars, and moaning synths. An enchantress slowly enticing you to lose your inhibitions until you are at once fully entangled in that gossamer webbing unable to break free. Clandestine, crooning charmer. - unholy rhythms

Bio

Cosmo V is the alter ego of Cosmo Luhulima, a Dutch girl with Moluccan origins who makes electronic music inspired by lofi, garagerock, 'franse zuchtmeisjes' and other honest and unpolished musicgenres.

V, the Roman numeral for 'de Vijfde', or in English 'the Fifth', stands for her last name; in Malaysian, the most common language on the Moluccan Islands, 'Lima' means 'five'.

On a young age she always wanted to make fine art, but during her teenage years her dreams started to point in another direction.

Music and words got a big impact in her mind and she started to get influenced by writers, bands and other vagabond antihero's like Bukowski and Nico.
She got in touch with the DIY thoughts, purchased equipment to make electronic music, but with the same allure as the music she got inspired to.
