The song Told You So is based on a story of one young mans journey to adulthood and the steps he took along the road by traveling from home to the city to start a life. As well as the ever changing foundation and experience of human life through relationships, a job, etc. No matter what kind of warnings parents give him about life he is always first to ignore the advice, because you're truly never living until you find out for yourself. The chorus says, "ready or not here I go!" which brings the understanding of going out on your own. In this case it was the drive from home to the city and the journey from child to adulthood. I hope you enjoy and can reflect on some of your own memories through my song, Told You So.

Told You So

Written By: Cotey Bowman

Little boy runs to his mother
She sees the mess that he’s made
Blood runs rather quickly from his hand
He hears I told you so (3x)

Little boy walks to get the paper
Twenty years later he’s now a man
He thinks of an old love in passing
And how they told him so (3x)

They say time heals all wounds
He just wished it’d come more soon

Ready or not here I go
You’ll probably say that I told you so
But I believe you
I just had to see to

Because finding out’s half the fun
We’ll worry later what’s done is done
Now I believe you
Just had to see too

Life’s getting tougher in the city
And everyday seems so far from home
With all these bills it seems a plenty
But they told me so (3x)

They say time heals all wounds
He just wished it’d come more soon

Ready or not here I go
You’ll probably say that I told you so
But I believe you
I just had to see to

Because finding out’s half the fun
We’ll worry later what’s done is done
Now I believe you
Just had to see too

He’s loved, lived, learned, and lost a lot now
And he knows it’s time to go
There’s so much living left to do
Before he can tell them so ( 3x)

They say time heals all wounds
He just wished it’d come more soon

Ready or not here I go
You’ll probably say that I told you so
But I believe you
I just had to see to

Because finding out’s half the fun
We’ll worry later what’s done is done
Now I believe you
Just had to see too

Don’t let yourself worry
Or time will pass you in a hurry
Ready or not hear I go
You’ll probably say that I told you so

Little boy runs to his mother
She sees the mess that he’s made
He thinks of an old love in passing
And how they told him so

I walk the beach at night and wait for you
The birds fly in but they’re becoming few
While at the wharf fisherman pay their dues
So how much more of this until they’re through

They say all will be fine
But right now they need your patience, space, and time

Tell that to the people
Whose lives depend on what they catch
And tell it all to the seagull
Who flies into black hoping to get fed

Oh tell them why

And who’s to blame when it’s on all our hands
Running through the veins once was sand
Like a foreign army marching in
The time is now for us to take a stand

They say all will be fine
Now they’re told it’s going to take a bit more time

Tell that to the people
Whose lives depend on what they catch
And tell it all to the seagull
Who flies into black hoping to get fed

Oh tell them why

No I don’t care who’s to blame
Right now it’s up to you and me
We’ve all got to learn to see eye to eye
We’ve all got to fight this thing
