Cotillion

Dave Panting has been instrumental in the revitalization of Newfoundland and Labrador traditional music through his work the the innovative folk band Figgy Duff . He continues to have a strong influence on our music playing with Rawlins Cross, The Forgotten Bouzouki, the Panting Brothers and Tanglecove. Along with keeping the old tunes alive, Dave is expanding the catalogue of Newfoundland and Labrador music with his own compositions.
   Hugh Scott is a singer and musician from Newfoundland. He is also a multi-instrumentalist, producer and award-winning songwriter (his song Theresa Maria won the 1996 SOCAN Song of the Year). Hugh has opened for Tommy Makem and the Yetties and has played with many other notable artists such as Liam Clancy and Gullivers Spree. His songs have been performed and recorded by Fine Crowd, the Ennis Sisters, Brown Ale, Celtic Wind, and Chris Murphy.
   Gerry Strong is a whistle and wooden flute player who played for many years with Tickle Harbour, A Crowd of Bold Sharemen and What Odds. With these groups he recorded four albums and toured across Canada, Ireland, England and Australia. Gerry has appeared as a guest musician on a multitude of recordings including that of Irish uillean piper Paddy Keenan. In 2008 he recorded his own CD entitled Velvet in the Wind, which features many of the top traditional players in Newfoundland and Labrador today.
   After teaching at the Vinland Music Camp together for the past 6 years and sharing the party cabin, they decided to finally officially get together and form Cotillion, each bringing their favourite songs and tunes to the band and collectively arranging them using their experience of years playing the music.
