An interview with Counterfist after a show at the Parkade in Kennewick, Washington. - The Entertainer (Kennewick, Washington)

Discography

Chiral - 2001

-Every note strummed and sung creates a beauty that is only rivaled by the dark overtones that strangle it. The energy and sound are the personification of love/hate, stirring the listeners’ strengths and weakness’ all at once

Vertical Mile - 2008

-Seattle band Counterfist rises again with their 2008 release of Vertical Mile. This record, their sophomore opus, boasts 15 regular tracks at 73 minutes & 41 seconds. When I say 15 tracks, I mean 15 SONGS, there is no filler here.

Tracks range from the quick and heavy 2:07 minute Freebase Party, to the 6:00 minute monster appropriately titled, Monster. The suggestive album title originates from a lyric in track 2, Freebase Party, describing a “backslide down a vertical mile” during a night of partying.

The title and theme of the album however is not an anthem of drug use. Vertical Mile heights and depths are alluded to throughout the record and depicted in the fear of performing on stage in Drown, and the guilt of unwanted pregnancy on Dragging The Stone to the high of riding the Monster of love.

Bio

Counterfist has become a staple of Seattle’s local rock scene. The rebuilt remnants of various projects, the band has been writing and performing original, heavy music since the summer of 1999.The sound can be described as a clean, precise, and beautiful blend of heavy bending guitars, high, soaring vocals, and tribal-like drums.  Counterfist would have a clean fit in the same genre as many of the 90’s and post 90’s NU metal artists such as Tool, Deftones, Soundgarden, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, and Failure.  With a solid following, the plan for the future focuses outward on regional, national, and ultimately, world touring.

The band has endured many changes in the lineup throughout the years. Yet, the addition and loss of keyboard, bass, and guitar players has not wavered the  bands’ popularity or enthusiasm. Currently, only two of the original members still remain; Vocalist George Grissom and  drummer Adam Clark. Bassist Rodney Moore (Formerly of Dead Stare) and the newest member, guitarist Michael Fisher (Formerly of Cornerstone) are prominent additions that help create the renowned sound  that is Counterfist.

Counterfist has played almost every venue in the Seattle area. If they welcome rock music, chances are, Counterfist has been there. They have also had the opportunity to share the stage with bands such as Taproot, Powerman 5000, Floater and Adema.
