“My music is a progression of my life.” Words and life motto of Mikel Knight. Where he is in his life did not come to be overnight. There is a story, a self-motivated plan that came to be and has taken Mikel from a struggling artist, to running over a million dollar company, all on his own accord.
Mikel was born on a military base in Hawaii and found himself settling down as a young boy in San Antonio, Texas. Listening to his mother’s records, and falling in love with music at an early age, Mikel began writing around the age of 13. At the age of 15, Mikel found himself living on the streets, and eventually found himself in prison. It was here where the foundation that is Mikel Knight came to be. Mikel found the Lord in prison, and realized his destiny was different; his destiny was to write and perform music for the world. By sharing his music, he could influence many people while sharing his values and his story with others. With the love of many different genres of music, it was natural for “a little bit of country, with a hip hop twist” to form. This marked the beginning of Mikel Knight, the pioneer of country rap. With top singles like “Saddle Up Shawty” and “Whiskey Drinkin SOB” there is much anticipation of his new album which is about to be released entitled Urban Cowboy.
