Bio

A native of Petal, Mississippi, Courtney began singing at an early age. As a child, he sang solos at his local church. At the age of eight, he was diagnosed with Juvenile Retinoschesis, a rare eye disease that proved to be both a challenge and a motivation throughout his life. In Junior High and High School, he was a member of both Concert Choir and Showchoir. While a member of Petal High School's Showchoir, The Soundsations, Courtney sang and danced in many national competitions and venues, both solo and as a group. In addition to competitive singing, Courtney also entertained at many local and state events. After graduation, Courtney began college, where he received a full scholarship from the music department. He was a member of the Concert Choir, where he performed across the state of Mississippi and at Carnegie Hall in New York City. His showchoir background afforded him a position in Jones On Stage, a song and dance troop serving as a public relations and recruitment arm for the college. It was during his performance schedule with Jones Onstage that he was heard and later invited to Nashville to be a part of the vocal band Nickajack. Courtney worked with the band for three years, made several recordings, and worked exclusively with producer Mike Clute. He is now pursuing a solo career, working with several established writers, and singing demos. He recorded his first solo demonstration album, What A Day, in 2004. The title cut off of this album was chosen for a compilation album entitled Nashville Nobody Knows by The Garland Appeal, an organization that was founded by Sir Paul McCartney. Courtney continues to pursue his career by networking with other musicians in order to find the producer, the songs, and the marketing strategy that is the most effective for his music style. He is also giving much thoughtful consideration and researching which non- profit organization battling eye disease would best fit his desire to contribute both his gift of music and his personal experiences. Juvenile Retinoschesis has played such an awesome part in his life. It has been a difficult road, and there have been times when he wanted to give up. Instead, he pressed on. It has shaped him into who he is today, and given him such a different outlook on life. It has made him realize that life is what you make of it. He has always had a purpose. He has always had a vision, even without having the best sight.

"As a performer in the college group that I direct, Courtney could always connect with an audience. His rich voice exudes soul, and his performance is real, it's authentic... very personal. He performs as if he's done it forever."

Joe Mauldin
Director, Jones OnStage

"As a producer, I have the opportunity to hear great voices on a daily basis and Courtney is at the top of the list of artists that I've worked with. His voice delivers an amazing believability that's second to none."
