Courtney Lynn's soulful voice and rhythm guitar brings the listener to the heart of the song while Emil West's rustic voice and melodic leads mesh the music with pure sincerity. When the two play live, you feel you've just come back invigorated from cruising along the coast or riding in the desert.

Biography

Music is what bonded Courtney and Emil from the very start. Emil had just arrived to Berkeley, California to complete his degree project. Courtney was soaking up the creative, easy-going pace of the West coast, when they found themselves sitting next to one another at a party with guitars in hand playing along to each other’s songs.

While becoming friends, they took some road trips, which proved to be a great inspiration for their original music. Only weeks after meeting, they had co-written two songs and were playing at an open mic night. The momentum of the music resounded with the rhythm of LIVE YOUR DREAMS.

Emil's major influences are Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, John Hiatt, Steve Earle, and Jackson Browne to name a few. Courtney has been inspired by an array of artists such as Jewel, Natalie Merchant, Dolly Parton, and Alicia Keys.

While Emil and Courtney were traveling throughout her native state of West Virginia, Emil asked Courtney if she would like to come to Sweden. Although this would be a courageous plunge, the freedom and happiness she felt hanging out her Swedish Cowboy soon led the West Virginia Girl across their “Sea of Liberty” to find once again their “Open Road” on Swedish soil.

During the time in Sweden, Emil worked with graphic engineering and Courtney as an English teacher; however, it was still the music that blazed the trail. They played at cafes and bars around the area and befriended musicians in Gothenburg with whom they would share a groove or two.

This past winter they took their act to the US, gigging in Brooklyn and Greenwich village, in addition to playing some shows in West Virginia.

Emil and Courtney are now hearing the fruits of their labor as their Country Roots Rock sound weaves in and out of each other’s unique style which is evident on their new EP. Their music resonates with the freedom of an "Open Road" which is worth a listen.

Lyrics

Open Road

Written By: Courtney Lynn Emil West

So I had to leave the Nordic port
The devil was after me, trying to get me caught
Yeah he thought that my soul could be bought
You know what I’m talking about
Don’t you see, you are me

Drive pass the road of planned certainty
I want to feel the wind fuel my way home
Faith will keep me, will keep me true
Well, no holds bar well, baby, I’ll, I’ll ride with you

Chorus:
Sunglasses, blue jeans and an open road
Vows and promises we behold
Fulfil my dreams oh lord I’m totally bold
Isn’t that right that’s right

No one knows what may become
We’ll keep on riding towards the setting sun
We’ll cross the frontier you know that can be done
We’re on the run well now let’s, let’s have some fun
here we go down the highway

Chorus 2x

My will is strong, and my courage too
I will not go without you
The open road is calling me
We will ride
RIDE TO BE FREE

Chorus 2x

Sea of Liberty

Written By: Courtney Lynn Emil West

I’ve been up, I’ve been down
I’ve been on the highway
I’ve been burned up by the sun

I’ve been restless
I’ve been tied down
Oh, but finally I’ve found my way around

So you see, it was meant to be
For you and me to sail the sea of liberty

Look ahead for the road so clear
I’ve looked long for someone to be near
I’ve seen my dreams fall to the ground
Oh, but finally I’ve found my way around

Let the rhythm wash over you
Come on now, let’s sail the ocean blue
The stars in the sky, will be our guide
We will roll home on the high tide

So you see, it was meant to be
For you and me to sail the sea of liberty

Don’t look back. We’ll be all right
Come on now, Let’s, let’s sail tonight
Storms will come, hard winds will blow
We will not question the freedom we should know

So you see, it was meant to be
For you and me to sail the sea of liberty

Catch the Crown

Written By: Emil West

Honey I just love what the spring rain does to your hair
And the Nordic winds want to take us somewhere
We got an open road which is pretty fair
Cause it will make sure that we get there

If the eagle paints the sky when he chases the morning sun
Like a stranger says hello without knowing anyone
If the band plays your song on your last night in town
It’s like the prom queen slips and you catch the crown
You catch the crown
You catch the crown

I’ve lived my life high and low
But mostly like gum under a dancing shoe
I missed a really good, good show
I was walking through the shadow land
But you were there and you held my hand

Now I’m feeling strong, I’m getting back on my feet
I don’t have to live in fear and it’s so clear to me
Oh I want to walk by your side down the isle
And eventually you’ll get your crown.
you’ll get your crown.
You catch the crown

I’ve lived my life high and low
But mostly like gum under a dancing shoe
I missed a really good, good show
I was walking through the shadow land
But you were there and you held my hand

Now I’m feeling strong I’m getting back on my feet
I don’t have to live in fear and it’s so clear to me
Oh I want to walk by your side down the isle
And eventually you’ll get your crown.
You catch the crown
You catch the crown
You catch the crown

Driven By A Vision

Driven By A Vision
Music and lyrics by Courtney Lynn

Focus on one thing, achieve another
Fall down, get back up again
Want smooth sailing all the time
Rough seas make the heart bigger, my dear friend
Rough seas make the heart bigger, my dear friend

Tell me all about what makes you smile
Highlight the beauty in your life
Tell me your sorrows and I’ll share mine
Together we will shine

Driven by a vision in my sweet heart
Driven all the way home
Some say dreams fade away
I say hope will always stay

Togetherness is a natural way of life
This is how we keep each other strong
Who knows what out there
Unless we get our boots dusty and keep moving on

Driven by a vision in my sweet heart
Driven all the way home
Some say dreams fade away
I say hope will always stay
Driven by a vision in my sweet heart
Driven all the way home
Some say dreams fade away
I say hope will always stay
I say hope will always stay
