Bio

"Courtney has been for me, one of the shining highlights of Australian Idol folklore. His distinctive gravel tones, his passion for music, and his desire to tell a story makes him a truly compelling performer"" - Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson – Australian Idol

“Many slow paced tunes that tell a story, it’s one of those CDs that you can turn up loud and really appreciate his smooth vocals and musical instrumentation. Musically and vocally the album is hard to fault.” - Aimee Somerville – Drum Media Perth (Big - Album Review)

It seems all too easy to regard the average Australian Idol performer as a ‘flash in the pan’ overnight sensation, but the truth behind Courtney Murphy’s success is far more involved. Having a musical career that spans longer than many of his peers, Courtney still performs regularly solo and with the band he formed with his brothers in the early 1990’s, Murphy’s Lore.

As one of the final three on ‘Australian Idol’ in 2004, still the highest rating season of the popular Network Ten program, Courtney quickly became one of the most recognisable new artists in Australia. His extraordinary voice and dynamic performances garnered him praise from the viewing public, who embraced his soulful interpretations of popular hits and hidden gems, as well as his happy-go-lucky persona and quirky sense of humour.

Following the show and a sell-out Idol tour, he rapidly became one of the hardest working and most sought after new artists in the industry. Along with regularly headlining festivals and corporate events throughout Australia he has appeared on popular television programs such as ABC’s Spicks and Specks and Ten’s Rove Live.

In 2005 Courtney, was invited to join the stellar cast of “Grease: The Arena Spectacular”. Performing alongside John Farnham, Craig McLachlan and Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Courtney’s performance was hailed by critics, “…blazing his sweet, deep voice…” (The Age) and demonstrated a natural acting ability to widespread audience acclaim.

Following on from his national success, Courtney buckled down to record his debut full-length album, which saw the light of day in 2010. This independent release has garnered great reviews around Australia and is still steadily selling digital and physical copies nation wide. Alongside the release of Big, Courtney was invited to support many popular Artists, including Robin Gibb and Human Nature.

More recently, Courtney is in high demand with corporate clients, performing for companies such as Chevron, Brookfield and the West Coast Eagles Football Club. Courtney has also always had a very big heart and after many years still continues to donate his time for many charitable causes, including the MS Society, Telethon and Lifeline.

Showing no sign of slowing down, Courtney Murphy is sure to still be performing his music in front of audiences for many years to come.
