Biography

In this world of hip hop vocoders and auto-tuned country singers there is a need to get back to where it all began. There is a special place outside of the rat race of the music business where family and friends get together on the back porch with a cold beverage and just have fun picking tunes and singing songs.

The Cowtown String band captures that feeling of spending a lazy Sunday on the porch trading licks and hitting harmonies. This six piece group has mastered the lost art of gathering around a single mic and playing with heart and humor. Even when they enter the world of electricity at bar and club gigs across the state they retain that back porch feeling while putting on a world class show.

If they seem like family it's because they are. Guitarist Matthew Williams (Blueground Undergrass, Captain Solarcat) and Mandolin player Trey Young are actually brother-in-laws. While fiddle player Jason "Panko" Wilson has been around so long he seems just like your wacky uncle. Vocalist Amber Griffith sings with old school charm without sacrificing her new school confidence. Donny Wysoczynski rolls the whole thing up with his tasty banjo chops.

In addition to original material the Cowtown String band can be heard playing a wide variety of tunes that includes many traditional old-time and bluegrass tunes as well as songs by Gillian Welch, Tom Petty and even Rick Astley when the mood strikes.
