"Coyote Union On The Street"

Every so often if we're lucky, we get to experience a magical moment in life. Our own little movie scene. Non-scripted, real, spontaneous. Last night as everyone was preparing to send Kourtney & Kurk off at their wedding I noticed these musicians playing (quite well I might add) across the street. As the newlyweds made their way to the getaway car, these guys came out in the street and serenaded them. They didn't try to steal the show or upstage what was going on either. Their touch was just perfect. I don't have any idea who you guys are but you made an already amazing moment even more perfect. Thank you for having the guts to make it happen. - Christian Gideon-Photographer

It’s always nice to have local talent live in the studio. With the size of the Hit 93.5 studio being small it can be an adventure too. First impression of these guys was made out in the parking lot just chatting with a couple of them as we waited for the others to show and then I noticed the van that must have for sure had free candy in it or a sticker somewhere on it that said the same. The guys range from mid teens to early twenties. Their drummer Mark is the one I had been talking with the most previous to them coming to the station and he makes me think of what Grizzly Adams must have looked like when he was younger. So everybody gathers up and they are excited to be here even in the early am. The energy of these guys is building as we walked down the hall just talking about life in general. Waiting for the break we all 5 of us squeeze in to the little studio for the interview. These are working class guys and one in high school that live every day lives to make their day and then live to play music. After a general question and answer session we get to the live “Unplugged” performance of Absence. This is when I get to hear the talent side live of these guys. Jordan the youngest quietest of the group (from what I had noticed) is the front man but when he stepped up to that microphone he turned it loose! Chris and Jacob lit those acoustics up and let them fly and then yes I hear it a harmonica comes in and the full combo just makes the hair on my arms stand up as I am setting at the control board. Even though they haven’t been together for long if these guys keep pushing and growing they will go places. I can’t wait to catch a full on Coyote Union Live Show. - Twin Lakes Radio

Bio

Coyote Union is an Americana Folk Rock band from Mountain Home, Arkansas. A group consisting of 5 best friends: Wes Dorethy(Violin, Piano, Vocals), Mark Bertel(Percussion), Jordan Finley(Bass, Vocals), Luke Gessner(Guitar, Vocals), Christopher Royer(Guitar, Harmonica). It started back in the 9th grade of high school when Mark and Chris started jamming together in Marks studio built onto his Dads barn. The countless nights of improvisation and playing covers led to several bands throughout the years, in which they were always together. So in 2011, 8 years after those nights of playing in 9th grade, Coyote Union was formed. Chris and Mark started writing music and asked friends, Jacob and Jordan, to come along and jam. The sound was getting there but needed a fifth element. That is where the band met Wes. Wes fit right in and became a best friend and band mate to all of them. The sound was complete. After about a year of playing together Jacob left for personal reasons and Coyote Union was in search of a guitar player. That is where they met Luke. Luke had gone to several Coyote Union shows and was more than happy to jump right in. Coyote Union has been going strong ever since then, combining a very entertaining and energetic live performance with Arkansas livelihood and hospitality. We will always take the time to talk to a fan, says Mark.

Coyote Union has several musical influences along with several influences branching from people, places, events, all aspects of life, and of course Arkansas. This gives their music the ability to relate to everyone.

Coyote Union released their self titled EP earlier this year (2013) recording with veterans Chris Hudson at Sonroom Studios and Josh Kawai at Black Sheep Audio. Take a listen and enjoy a great up and coming band.
