Bio

A chance encounter on the streets of downtown Boston was all it took to set the sound machine in motion. The first musical explorations began in late September of 2005, and before long the newly formed band began composing original material.

Exploding with potential, Cozmosis set out to fine tune their sound while working out the essential ingredients to their potent blend of sonic stew.

The collaboration began in high school when guitarist Matt Bartlett and keyboardist Dan Spencer began jamming in Spencer’s basement. Following several after school sessions the two visionaries recruited other musically acclaimed friends to form the Sounds Project in early 2003.

The jams soon intensified and the Sounds Project gained enormous popularity in their home town, competing and winning two consecutive Battle of the Bands titles. But all good things must come to an end, and so it did when the Project disbanded in early 2005, setting out to expand their talents and minds at college.

With the idea of playing together through college, Matt went to Boston College and Dan to Boston University to keep the groove alive. They soon joined forces with classically trained cellist turned funky, James Jordan. Jimbo had been playing cello for 12 years before he discovered the funk within and immediately began laying it down on the bass. And it was he who through random occurrence found drummer Addison Maupin, and decided to put a band together.

After parting ways with Addison due to creative differences, the band recruited Berklee grad Charlie Giesige to complete the quartet.  Charlie used his jazzy grooves and rootsy vibes to infuse the musical collaboration with new insight and a uniquely developed sound. With the newly acquired rhythmic backdrop, the four musicians began crafting and manipulating their music to expand beyond the crusty confines of traditional tonal experimentation.  As Matt, Dan, Jim, and Charlie continue to grow together in the sonic stew of their making, the grooves will continue to flourish with ever increasing vivacity, exploding across various live stages in Boston, as well as an emerging underground party circuit that gains momentum with every electric performance.
