Bio
I was born in a musical home in Nashville Tennesse, raised on Paul Simon and the Beatles, Peter Paul and Mary, James Taylor. My dad taught me to play piano, and to sing harmony, and to appreciate many diferent kinds of music. But it wasn't until I bought my first guitar that I realized I was to become a full-time musician. I started playing because it was easy to carry a guitar around in my college years- and I started writing songs because I had a burning deire to express myself. My first gig in Nashville was opening for Jill Sobule- another Nashville musician, and when I heard the appluse I was hooked. I listened to John Hyatt, Neil Young, Pete Townsend, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Bob Mould, REM, and many others and looked to them for guidance as my songs progressed.
I was tried in the fires of the competitive Nashville scene- and later in both L A and New York, and have perfected both solo and band shows, with tours in the us and abroad. I've made records for big labels, written for Sony- Tree and Warner Chappell music publishing companies. I wrote this most recent record, Ten Year Sleep, as an expression of my deep love for music, my reaffirmed lifelong commitment to my art, my love of performing, and my need to grow as an individual.
I am unique, as a singer, as a guitar player, as a lyricist- none sound like me, and I sound like noone else. My songs are my strength, and I draw on my deep love of music for my inspiration. I think you can feel that when I play.
