Bio

Somewhere under the rubble of modern money-driven pop and excessive twerking, stirs Cranky Alice, an energetic new resurgence rock band from Sydney. Taking influence from the stadium presence of the Foo Fighters, the raw energy of Tom Petty, and classic Australian blues rock of Powderfinger, Cranky Alice pushes all the right buttons. “I haven’t heard a rock song this good come from Australia since 1989″ says Paul Carlin of Manchester Real Radio XS about the band’s latest release ‘What’s it Like’.

Cranky Alice have honed their sound over the past 18 months through the uncompromising and unforgiving baptism of fire that is the Australian pub scene. As rock endures – shall we say- ‘ a lull’ in Sydney, it is a challenge for new rock to emerge through the hubbub of more predominant genres. Yet Cranky Alice forges ahead with a fierce determination to ensure their new sound is heard. Cranky Alice’s secret weapon is a mesmerising live show, with no ‘funny business'; raw and real, just four musicians and their instruments playing great songs with heart, soul and a contagion of enthusiasm.

With two single releases under their belt and an album nearing completion, Cranky Alice’s emergence from the rubble has begun. The Cranky Alice (previously MASK) song ‘So High’ has featured in a Sony advertising campaign in JAPAN, and it’s subsequent release received air-time on Triple-M and community radio Australia-wide. Their latest release ‘What’s it Like’ has made waves across the globe including UK’s ‘RadioXS’ and PERU’s Radio ‘Doble Nueve 99.1 FM’.

For an unsigned and totally independent act, Cranky Alice have a truly amazing product in the form of top-shelf recorded material and a compelling live performance supported by ARIA award winning producers/engineers who have donated their time and expertise to mentor this new Australian talent. The Cranky Alice sound is firmly underpinned by songwriting excellence crafted under the guidance of one of Australia’s most successful songwriters.

‘The Crankies’ debut album is being produced by David Hemming (e.g. Noiseworks, Paul Mac, Jessica Mauboy), and prolific Australian songwriter and producer Garry Frost OAM with belt-notches such as Moving Pictures’ classic ‘What About Me’, and 1927’s hit album ‘Ish’.

Cranky Alice are:

  • Dylan Mitchell on vocals
  • Jules Wucherer on lead guitar
  • Jordan Glass on bass
  • Theo Henry on drums

Unapologetic rock.
