"North By Northeast description of Crash the Car"

Songwriter Kyle Cashen's tunes echo Neil Young via Pearl Jam and Calexico. With bandmates Jordy Walker and Micah Smith, Cashen turns out melodic, mysterious, songs. Maybe it's just us--but we think that somewhere in there, we hear the space and slow pulse of those big northern landscapes. - nxne.com

"Cover story: What’s up Yukon"

Crash the Car features poetic lyrics set amongst the ambient hum of gentle guitar, infused with the familiar and unfamiliar sounds of instruments and found objects...live sets are filled with Cashen constantly reaching his foot to another pedal, looping his vocals, utilizing a delicate range of spontaneous sounds and meticulously layering the ethereal levels into a cohesive blend. - Tara McCarthy

"They Built Houses Here Review"

There is something about Cashen’s record that harks back to (Neil) Young’s (Harvest) recording of 38 years ago....There is honesty in his voice and immediacy of music that hit me at a gut level. - Bill Polonsky, Discourse

"Performance Review"

“Amid unpredictable guitar riffs, Cashen’s ethereal voice floated above the music. Playing eerie, melancholic tunes, [his] performance enthralled the crowd into hushed silence. His suppressed voice was accompanied by a single, stifled guitar, the loud tones mostly held back in quiet reserve, occasionally allowed to flutter.” - Andrew Hoshkiw, Whitehorse Star

"Crash the Car"

If you were to find yourself in the middle of a lake, able to walk solidly along the bottom and still see the sky; if you were able to breathe air like the top of Yukon peaks, and smell sea foliage like the middle of an English garden, the sound you would hear would be the lilting vocals and complex timings of Crash the Car.” - Jessica Thiessen, freelance writer

"Songs from the Great White North"

Crash the Car's debut disc, They Built Houses Here, offers evocative, poetic soundscapes and songs of stark, melancholic beauty delivered with a sound like Chad VanGaalen fronting the Wooden Stars. - MD Stewart, FFWD
