Bio
Montreal based duo of artists in electronic music and visual arts TANUKI Project, consisting of Gilles Roisan and Nady Marro, is distinguished by unique artistic projects made of impactful visuals and artsy electronic sound. Their sound and visuals create a world you can feel in your brain and body – music that is art you can breath in. This band must be experienced live to truly catch and feel the artistic and stroboscopic trance they create.
Their first self-produced album , Playground for Everyone, was released in 2010 in collaboration with Aquarius Records / Donald K Donald, with North America concerts including the Canadian Music Week, [FAT] Toronto Alternative Art and Fashion week, MONTREAL MODE AND DESIGN FESTIVAL, showcases at Toronto Indie Week, COCA central regional conference, Montreal MEG festival and Inc Lounge on Broadway, New York USA; several songs getting licensed in videos of Ford, Browns, Spring, and episodes of Degrassi .
Fall 2011, they created their music label 'Go with the flow' to produce and release their second album 'Far From The City Lights' (on worldwide iTunes and digital stores) with a Tokyo tour during the Japan Music Week. The canadian launch of the album happened during a special multimedia performance at Montreal Contemporary Arts Museum.
The band's professional experience extend in the fields of multimedia arts, like the original soundtrack composition of the successful web viral 3D animation short movie 'I, Pet Goat II' (undeniable viral success with more than 4M views), directed by Louis Lefebvre ( 3D artist for ’Final Fantasy', Le Seigneur des Anneaux’…). They also composed a part of the soundtrack for the animated series URBANCE created by Steambot Studios (visual artists for hollywood movies like Tron Legacy, Prometheus…).
In 2015 they create the Tanuki Soundsystem with Mic Dainjah (singer in Hippy Mafia and John Orpheus is Dead): a creative electro culture clash and electronic soul genre mixing mesmerizing female vocals with male hip-hop / soul vocals, hypnotic analog synths bass lines and powerful beats. The first EP was successful at College radios rotations (for ex: remaining #1 for several weeks in the Urban charts at Montreal’ CIBL).
They also developed the project called TRACE, a multimedia show in collaboration with Québec novels writer André Marois, a multimedia concept mixing videos, music, songs and a short film. The story is dark and a bit sci-fi and performed by young talented montreal comedians. The music is electronic soul, cinematic, trip-hop, dance and hypnotic; A reflexion on human condition and technology, anticipation of what the ‘cloud’ could be in a near future.
Early 2016, they set up a new soundsystem project called Crazy Rozy, an electronic audio video live performance with analog synths, a drum machine and a voice with effects. Some energizing dirty house A/V live act they’re taking on tour to Japan in spring 2017. The tour in Japan (organized by Inter Idoru management) consisting in 11 dates in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe was a great success resulting in a partnership with an indie label called Far Channel Records.
Another project for 2019 Tanuki is working on: Haters Lovers, a multimedia collaboration with Steambot Studios, a socially engaged vinyl comic-book, with collaborations with worldwide musicians such as muGz (US), John Orpheus, Murph and more to be announced..
