"CD Review"

Crazy Man's Basement: There and Back
Graham Fons, Shepherd Express; Jul 8, 2004
Their name might imply a dark and sinister place, but CMB’s sound is just the opposite on their debut release, with a set of relaxed and roomy tunes. Lead singer Tom Klubertanz’s vocals recall groups like Sister Hazel or the Barenaked Ladies, which also speaks for the band’s overall pop-rock mentality, complete with metallically bright acoustic melodies, chiming vocal harmony, and syrupy lead fills by guitarist Andy Zietlow that invoke the distinct resonance of U2's the Edge. And need it be questioned that a near similar acronym was taken into mind with a major influence like the Dave Matthews Band (a group CMB often covers live)? With arrangements that become addictive through the cohesion, CMB is worth lending an ear. - Shepherd Express-Alternative Press

Bio

Crazy Man's Basement began as two friends, and fellow high school teachers, spent their free time writing, playing and recording live music together in the basement of their high school. "Real. Roots. Rock." was born in the form of an acoustic guitar and vocal duo. With the addition of bass and drums, Crazy Man's Basement has since developed into a highly successful and popular rock quartet featuring both acoustic and electric styles.  Quickly gaining notoriety in Southeastern Wisconsin, and on the internet, CMB's first single, "Everything," has received airplay on many radio stations around the midwest and three songs from their debut CD "There and Back" have climbed the indie charts nationally at both Cornerband.com and Garageband.com. Joining the ranks of other successful bands from Wisconsin such as, The BoDeans, The Violent Femmes, and Arrested Development, Crazy Man's Basement won the 2005 WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Award for CD/Recording of the Year and also received a nomination for 2005 Pop/Adult Group of the Year following 2004's New Artist of the Year nomination. Work has already begun on their follow-up CD and additional tour dates are being added regularly. Good things continue to happen for CMB in 2006 and 2007, including live television (Todya's TMJ4) and radio appearances (102.1 The Scene with Brian Kramp), significant print media coverage- including being featured as one of the best new unsigned artists in America by XM Radio’s R>A>D>A>R Report, and two more WAMI nominations– including another nomination for 2006 Pop/Adult Artist of the Year and the 2006 award for Best Artist Website. Now headlining shows at nearly all major festivals, colleges and clubs throughout Wisconsin and the upper Midwest, Crazy Man's Basement has become well-known for performing high energy, interactive sets of their "acousta-lectric" rock for a constantly growing legion of loyal fans.  CMB has also made it an annual tradition to support worthy organizations in Wisconsin, making charitable appearances, as well as donating significant proceeds from CD and merchandise sales to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
