Released: n/a, Independent

Modern Metal is the name of the game here, with tortured vocals, breakdowns and melodic Death Metal riffs leading the way. Cripple Ewe (pronounced Cripple You) is a young band from the States and THE COMMON ENDING is their debut effort.

Even though I’m not the greatest fan of this style, I do appreciate the energy and aggression of the music and that can certainly be heard on opener “F.D.A.F.O.L.”, “Miseries Hour” and the title track. Vocalist Matt Coglianese whips up quite a storm and the remainder of the band offer enough energy to get the blood pumping.

Unfortunately the band and their style of Death Metal tinged Metalcore is already in full swing and that somewhat dates THE COMMON ENDING a little. Bands such as Heaven Shall Burn, All That Remains or Despised Icon have progressed beyond what I hear here which means that Cripple Ewe needs to progress further if they want to keep up with those leading the way.

Cripple Ewe have a lot of potential and should appeal to those you who enjoy or follow any “core” related sounds. THE COMMON ENDING is a solid effort, so check it out if it’s something that would appeal to you.

Metal comes in all forms, with tortured vocals, killer breakdowns, and melodic death metal riffings at your ear drums crates Cripple Ewe (pronounced Cripple You). A young band from Chicago, Illinois with their debut "The Common Ending," express themselves greatly.

Opener 'F.D.A.F.O.L." starts out a bit slow and faded out but soon comes in after you wonder when the METAL will start. The fastness comes in with force and brings the vocals right at you having the guitar riffs blasting as the drums do the same getting the music flowing soothly. "These Many Days," continue the heaviness as the guitars deliver a great riffing solo having it going in and out. As the track goes through some stop times but keeps the mayhem stable and making you wanting more. "In The Dead Of Fall," mellows down the heavy metalness but maintains a rough junkie beat causing a mosh pit instantly forming. "Numb," automatically makes your body go exactly that with all this music invading your soul and melting your blood away. It brings an essence of Hatebreed to the floor, having the guitars going as fast and as heavy as they can express themselves. Vocally Cripple Ewe strike a newer sound, crossing the lines of a grind/metal sound, mixing some of the betters sounds out their. They definitely have a Lamb of God feel (New American Gospel era). The vocals work perfectly with the band. All in all each track on this release offers something interesting and run and I can not wait to see this band start touring the world.

Cripple Ewe are an unsigned group who need some attention. Missing this band could be like missing the next Killswitch Engage. They definitely have the talent and appears motivation to truly become a remarkable talent nationwide. I just hope this review brings some of this success out!

"Illinois Entertainer"

Illinois Entertainer: April 2008

The problem many people have with death metal, grindcore, and other forms of extreme metal is vocals – the dull repetition of it-all-sounds-the-same grunting and growling through 12 songs. Cripple Ewe battle that monotony by using two, sometimes three vocalists on The Common Ending. This may seem like overkill for a blood-and-guts deathgrind act, but Chad Ramos’ high-pitched shriek keeps frontman Matt Coglianese’s Cookie Monster bark in check, giving Cripple Ewe more character than most their genremates. Bio

Cripple Ewe is a five-piece collection of musicians stemming from Chicago, IL. The current members began playing together late in 2004 and soon realized that the fusion of their different influences created a rather unique sounding style of Metal. Since forming, Cripple Ewe has spent a considerable amount of time writing and recording their first full length album. Since the release of their self produced album in January 2007 the band has also played many local shows and put together a mini weekend tour to play in Nebraska. Since the summer of 2007 Cripple Ewe has received Radio play and promotion on Fearless Radio, Chicago Untuned Radio, Chicago Metal Works Radio, Ferocity Internet Radio, Metal Net Radio, and is featured on Chicago Metal Factories Myspace song playlist. With a demo and full length album out of the way, Cripple Ewe has begun writing material for a second album and will continue to focus playing as many shows as possible to promote their music and expose it to the masses. Their main goal is to contribute their new, unique, exciting and dynamic sound to the music industry and to do so with an unmatched energetic live show.
