"MISSION BAND TO OPEN FOR 54-40 IN ABBOTSFORD"

The musicians who make up Crop Circle grew up in Mission together and all played in their first bands together in high school.
So their roots run deep.
Band members say they have "come clean" and now confess to being responsible for the world's crop circle phenomenon. Enjoy their fun-loving attitude and great music on Feb. 23, when they open for Canadian classic 54-40 at the Showbarn in Abbotsford. Crop Circle has toured Western Canada with top performers and had early success with two singles. Their debut album, Come Inside, is expected to be in stores soon. Ben Darbey, Sean McCormick, Brian Garbet and Nathan Zadworny are the Mission musicians of Crop Circle. They'll open for 54-40 at the Showbarn [32470 Haida Drive, Abbotsford] on Feb. 23, along with Marianas Trench.

"YOU CAN'T SPELL MUSIC-MAYHEM WITHOUT MAY!"

Things are getting steamier out there in the Okanagan. April was a busy month and I certainly had my share of rawked-out fun. My epic night of the month was Saturday, April 23 at The Warehouse. Good sound = good times. Crop Circle headlined the show with fellow Van City rockers, Fear Zero.

Crop Circle was fan-freaking-tastic. Their "Mexican Cockfight" song always sounds best live. This band has incredible energy, excellent songwriting, and great lyrics. They're stage presence is very powerful. I wouldn't be surprised to see them at Prospera Place next time they are in town.

"BANDS GET A BUZZ FROM BUD"

Some relatively unknown local groups have been selected to take part in a national promotion with big-name sponsorship. Budweiser True Music is a digital-music download service that features songs from a variety of Canadian acts. These include major signed bands such as the Trews and Finger Eleven, and indie outfits like Vancouver's Crop Circle, State of Shock and Krome. Crop Circle's Brian Garbet told the Straight that someone from Budweiser discovered the band on an obscure Internet site and got in touch. The guitarist admits he had reservations about signing on to a project with such obvious corporate tie-ins, but he said that benefits to the bands outweigh any flak they might get. "I looked at it this way: how they're basically functioning for us in a lot of ways is sort of like a record company. Like, they're getting us out there, they're getting promotion happening, opening up doors to different things that we might not be able to get on our own, most likely. And they're not asking anything from us other than to allow people to download our music, which we want anyhow." Bands participating in the True Music promotion will perform at Bud-sponsored concerts throughout the country this summer. "It's a big step for us," Garbet said. "I think it's going to help things, and I'm looking forward to it."

Bio

Formed in 2002, Crop Circle was blessed with early success. Before setting foot on stage the band had a surprise runaway hit with Mexican Cockfight. From there the band hit the road touring western Canada several times from Victoria to Winnipeg. Some of the highlights included performing with ZZ Top at The Bluff in Kelowna, playing Calgary Stampede with Bif Naked, 2 consecutive years on Budweiser’s True Music tour and 3 trips to Edmonton within a 3-week period. In that time Crop Circle produced 2 demo EPs and sold over 1,000 copies right off the stage. The band used those hard miles and experience on the road to write songs and develop their sound. Crop Circle then entered the studio with producer Todd Kerns to record their debut album “Come Inside.” The band wanted to cut it old school so the complete record was recorded and mixed to tape in just 2 weeks. The CD will be available in April of ‘08.

Crop Circle is comprised of a bunch of guys who grew up together in Mission, a small mill town outside of Vancouver. They all played in their first bands together in high school, so their roots run deep. In fact, the band still rehearses in an old barn out in the Valley. Crop Circle is all about friends uncompromisingly playing the music they love and having a great time doing it! Sean McCormick (vocals), Brian Garbet (guitar), Nathan Zadworny (bass) & Ben Darbey (drums).

“The Crop Circle record is amazing. Very Sabbath meets Screaming Trees. That’s the best I can describe it. Very raw. Very honest.”
Todd Kerns-Age of Electric/Static in Stereo/Faster Pussycat

“The secret is out - a long sought after mystery has been revealed. The answers to the world’s crop circle phenomenon lie here on Canada’s west coast!” Shannon Ambrose-Artist Launch Mag, TUB eZine

And Todd Hancock, the afternoon DJ on 99.3 The Fox in Vancouver, says: "I've watched Crop Circle from the sidelines for the last couple of years. These guys show great tenacity and are poised for big things. Keep an eye on them 'cause things are about to explode!"
