"EXCLUSIVE: CROSS CHECK - "BETTER OFF" MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERE"

Upstate, NY's Cross Check is returning with its second effort, titled Adversity, on May 5th--and better than ever. It's common for young bands to find success in taking on a sound that's similar to whoever's big at the time, but Cross Check has taken a slightly different path, sounding more like they'd fit in the early 2000s scene. We've got the first taste of the upcoming EP with the single "Better Off", and if you like what you hear, check out the pre-order bundles here. What’s your hometown (or what are your hometowns)?

Fishkill, NY

How did the band come together? How long has it been?

Chris moved in next to Branden & Tristen, and Branden thought it would be cool to start a band so they got together and brought Chris’ friend John in to play bass. After parting ways with our original guitarist, Luke joined the band and we’ve been writing with line up for about seven months.

How have you grown since you started?

The band has just steadily grown to have a more mature and punk sound than it used to and the writing style has developed into its own sound, which is really cool.

What sets you apart from other bands?

We all implement different styles into the band, so the music becomes sort of like a melting pot of different influences.

What’s the best part about being in your band?

Getting to share the stage (and the floor) with some of our favorite bands like With The Punches and we got to meet a lot of cool people!

More times than not, influences tend to bleed through. What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Have Mercy, State Champs, The Hotelier, The Strokes, and all the people we’ve met and heard along the way.

What would you say the band has already accomplished and what do you have your eyes set on next?

We got to record a song with Converse through the Rubber Tracks program, we filmed an hour long concert with Live From Studio A and the people in the broadcast program at Hofstra University, we’ve gotten to play with a lot of awesome bands & acts, and put out some baller ass music.

Thus far, what’s a favorite memory or something quirky that’s taken place with the band (in-studio, onstage, or elsewhere)?

Doing the Live From Studio A program was such a great experience to be a part of! We got to play for a lot of new people, we got to get our custom stage designed and all the students and their professors that we worked with were very helpful and super fun to hang with through the whole thing. The entire trip was one of the coolest things we’ve gotten to do!

Is there anything in particular that you’d like people to take away from listening to your music?

Just have fun with what you do and always remember that music is a great way to express yourself, so never be afraid to write and share your music with other people!

If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?

We’d probably change the way people react when you ask them to check out your band because there are so many other people doing the same thing that you are that its hard to be recognized among the masses and the only way to stand out is for people to listen to your music. Some people just have to give bands a chance and give them a listen once in a while!

How did your band’s name come about?

Chris digs hockey.

What’s the biggest mistake someone’s made while playing?

The worst mistake you can make as a band is to not practice so when you play a show, your band isn’t as tight as you want it be!

Any pre-performance rituals?

We do vocal warm ups most of the time, so that’s kind of a ritual!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Make sure you check out our new record Adversity dropping May 5th and keep an eye out for some Cross Check jams moving through your part of town this summer! - Property of Zack
