Pontotoc band ready to take over the world

TUPELO - It's been about three months since Crossing Cain formed, and the band has already hit the ground running. The Pontotoc-based rock group made up of drummer Rob Vaught, guitarist Jimi Key, bassist Mike Jones, guitarist Jaime "Cannon" Westmoreland, vocalist Chris Coop - formed when
Blindstone fell apart, Jones said. Since Crossing Cain started in July, the band has performed a host of gigs, recorded
original material and received radio airplay from a few North Mississippi radio stations.
From covers to originals
The band is moving from doing mostly covers live to their original material, which Jones calls "Southern rock with a twist"
"Everything we play and write comes from in here," Key said, patting his chest.
Still, each song has its own flavor and style, Westmoreland said.
"Everything we do sounds like a different band," he said.
The band is still writing songs for its debut album, which Crossing Cain hopes to release by the end of the year.
The band still throws covers everything from Pink Floyd to Three Days Grace," Jones said - into sets.
"

"We refuse to be labeled as a cover band," Key said.
Coop agreed. "By the end of the year, we plan on being 100 percent original," he said. "Weare in a huge move."
The band is also working each week on making a great live show.
"It's very high energy," Key said. "The more we sweat, the better it gets."
Coop considers the band's live show as what will sell the band to the region, the country and later the world.
"That's the thing you can't download at the end of the day," he said."

Bio

Crossing Cain was formed when Chris Cooper, Mike Jones & Rob Vaught's band Blindstone, lost their two guitar players. In no time at all guitarist Jimi Key was brought into the group and Crossing Cain was then established. The group was off and running and in just a few short months the bands original catalog began to grow. Playing shows in the Mississippi, Tennessee & Arkansas area, and sharing the stage with other original regional acts such as Vysion & Surrender the Fall, Crossing Cain strives to be more of an original band each day. The bands sound has a unique blend of Grunge, Hard Rock & Classic/Southern Rock with influences coming from bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Three Doors Down, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nickleback, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Black Crows, Dream Theatre and so on.
