CD reviews

By Pete Menting • Choices • October 20, 2008

Visalia was treated to a great music festival a few weeks back, proving there is plenty of talent in the Central Valley.

Crossing Caldwell hammers this point home on its self-titled debut. While not fitting neatly into any specific genre, Crossing could be described as country. But that would be like calling Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson solely country artists; both were able to transcend genres.

Sure, tracks such as "Copenhagen Cowboy," "Free For All" and "Uncle Eddie" fit the country fill, but "Girl of My Dreams" and the mellow "Lonely Man" are on the outer fringes.
There's no need to classify "Beer + Whiskey Night" and "Shut the Door." Just crank them.

Be sure to check out Crossing Caldwell's CD release party at 9 p.m. Friday at The Cellar Door, 101 E. Main St. in Visalia.

Bio

What genre is Crossing Caldwell? Who cares! Call it what you want and keep it coming out yer' speakers. It's music for the fans of "good music".

Crossing Caldwell is very excited about putting their new album in the hands of their fans. This 14 song debut album released on October 24th, 2008 is a unique blend of everything they've had in their heads for the past 10 years or so and put it together, "Crossing Caldwell" style. There is a song for everyone on this album and some of you may even find out that you were a character in one. That's what makes Crossing Caldwell such a fan friendly band. Everyone can relate to the songs because they all have a down to earth "hometown" feel. It's real life music for real life people!

Following the release of the album, Crossing Caldwell hopes to spread their sound around California and anywhere else that will have them. Crossing Caldwell has a great time making music together and the biggest reward for the whole band is having people lend an ear to enjoy this great time with them. Take a listen to the tracks and let them speak for themselves.
