A letter from Oscar...Cuban Legends brings together years of combined performance and recording experience in traditional Cuban music, Jazz, R & B, Pop and Rock...
I envisioned this project during the filming and recording of Antoni Ansarov's documentary "Lagrimas Negras", a film detailing the experiences of exiled Cuban musicians living in the United States going as far back as the 60's...
From the beginning this project focused more on our Cuban roots and the elements of Jazz that have forever been entwined...I called Paquito, Flaco, Raphael and Felix and Cuban Legends was born...But something was missing...My down home Motown...Beatles...AM Radio upbringing...So I rang up my childhood buddy "Songster" Pat DeLeon, we grew up together on the streets of Little Habana in Miami and he showed up with a briefcase full of blues...
This is the tale of two cultures coming together...of a migration with roots still firmly on both sides of the 90 mile stretch that separates both shorelines...this is the story of six musicians that have been friends for over four decades and musically tell their story...We are the "Immigrant Songsters"...
