Culture Canute is a roots reggae singer from Jamaica, now based in San Francisco. His mellow lover's rock style has been compared to Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs. His debut album "Culture Canute & The Rockstone Players" received some college radio airplay and steadily grows in popularity on Pandora. It continues to sell consistently on iTunes.

Biography

Canute grew up in Montego Bay, Jamaica at the time that reggae was exploding worldwide.  He picked up the guitar at a young age and began playing and writing songs.  Some common themes inspired by his life are the suffering of the poor, transcending adversity, and love.

Playing aboard cruise ships, he found the opportunity to travel, eventually settling in San Francisco, CA.  His 2011 album, “Culture Canute & the Rockstone Players,” is a selection from the catalogue that he spent years developing.  Critics received it well and he got airplay on Pandora, Spotify and Northern California college radio.  Without much tour support, the album continues to sell regularly on iTunes.

A follow up album is in pre-production stages now.  Canute continues to stick to his classic roots and dub style with a hardcore rhythm section and positive, uplifting lyrics.

Safe Straight Line

Written By: Culture Canute

To skip over the line is all it takes to do some time
So walk a safe straight line you hear my brothers
Sometimes life won’t be always to kind
So walk a safe straight line you hear my sisters

Try to walk in a line
Try to walk in a safe straight line
Safe straight line, a-safe straight line you hear my brothers

For a life of violence, cruelty and crime
You better stop that crazy strange life that you’re living

Try to walk in a line
Try to walk in a safe straight line
A safe straight line, a-safe straight line you hear my brothers

Stop the fuss because we’ve got to take our time
To walk a safe straight line you hear my brothers
The time is so hard but we’ve got to make up our minds
To walk that safe straight line you hear my sisters

A Better Place

Written By: Culture Canute

Whoa oh oh, Oh gosh right now
Let’s bring about a better a day and better way

Say what can we do in the world to make it a better place
People are in distress, they’re all put to the test
So many questions we can ask, and so many answers we’ll find
People are upset, we’re all living under stress so

We’re living in a crucial time now
Is there an answer to be found
Seek and you shall find now
The pathway to happiness is in your mind

So many sickness and death
Many laying and dying on the ground
So much shame and anger
Sufferation everywhere to be found
So what can we do about it, that is the question
And when something’s done towards it
You know that’s the answer
So what can we do, what can we say
How can we help in some way
To bring about a better day and a better way

Whoa oh oy, Oh gosh right now
Let’s bring about a better a day and better way

Lift My Spirit

Written By: Culture Canute

Friends them always say I look so sad I look so lonely
Cause I’m always thinking of you
They don’t really know just what I would do
For us to start anew

chorus
Come on baby give me what you got
I’m sure now it means a lot for you to stand by me
You can’t imagine just what it means
Just to know that you were on my scene to stand by me
Stand by me, oh, oh, oh yay

Because I try to hide outside the way I feel inside
The emptiness I feel you
The way I care for you now, the love I felt for you
Joy that burns inside

chorus

Lift my spirit, Lift my spirit, Jah

Against the window pane, oh yes I’m looking out in vain
You see my life will never be the same
I’m calling out your name girl, cause I’m so alone in pain
Why can’t we start this love anew

Heart Desire

Written By: Culture Canute

There may be days when I’m down and out
and I will need your comforting
There may be days when I’ll feel so lonely
and I’ll need your company
There time be times when you’re down and out
and I will be your comforting
There may be times when you need someone
and I will be the one you seek

You are my heart desire
You set my soul on fire
My temperature get higher
Give all your loving to me
Loving you see

So love me me darling baby please
Love me me darling don’t feel no way
So love me me darling baby please
Love me me darling don’t feel
Give your love to me, give it to me now
Give it to me, give it to me now

Whom Shall I Fear

Written By: Culture Canute

Come unto Jah, king of all kings
come unto Jah the true almighty

Jah Jah is my light and strength
Babylon me nah no fear

Whom Shall I Fear
Jah children never fear
You cannot put I in despair
Not while I’m living down here

Come unto Jah, king of all kings
Come unto Jah the true almighty
My rod of correction
Jah Jah shall guide me
He shall Guide me
Sit upon the seat and be scornful
Jah Jah shall smite you
He shall smite you
Walk in the house of ungodly
]Jah Jah shall blight you
He shall blight you
Come unto Jah, king of all kings
Come unto Jah the true almighty

If Jah is my strength whom shall I fear
No one in this world I shall never fear
Because I know

Jah Jah is my light and strength
Babylon me nah no fear

Whom Shall I Fear
Jah children never fear
You cannot put I in despair
Not while I’m living down here
No, no, no, no, no,
