Cumbiagra is a Brooklyn-based original cumbia band dedicated to making the dance floor happen. Since its creation in the summer of 2008, Cumbiagra has been hosting legendary dance parties throughout New York’s Lower East Side, Brooklyn, Mexico and beyond.
Though Cumbiagra is largely inspired by the Colombian dance style known as cumbia, its music has developed into a unique synthesis of styles, drawing on the diversity of its members and the rich musical environment in which they live. A typical Cumbiagra set might start with a slow, dirty cumbia, dip into a kinky reggae, then explode into a scorching merengue-ska, or a sexy salsa, before returning to their infectious cumbia style. Whatever they are playing, it is sure to please.
