Curbside Sofa LP - 2013

The band's philosophy is keep it simple, have fun and rock loud. Why complicate things? Two guitars, a bass, drums and some spirited vocals are what these garage/punk music fans have always loved in their favourite bands.

Curbside Sofa is two parts lifelong musicians and two parts lifelong music fans turned musicians in the last few years. When a punk/garage rock fan can't get enough what does he do? He starts a band. Throw a few chords together through a Les Paul and a Marshall amp, write some crafty lyrics and combine that with other creative minded music fans and you get Curbside Sofa.

Shawn Finn is the lifelong punk rock and Beatles fan that just had to live out his dream of playing in a band. His crafty lyrics and constant down stroke rhythms mimic his idol Johnny Ramone. In the constant struggle for the greatest raw tone - Shawn has taken on the role of the constant and stable anchor in the band.

Paul Medved is also living out a boyhood dream not only to be the nicest and fairest guy you'll ever meet but to be in a rock and roll band. This KISS and heavy metal fan can be as gentle and tender as Ben Harper and Jack Johnson. You need to watch out when his ovary is flaring up because you may just fall in love with him and his bass. When the growl of that TV yellow bass roar and his forearm is bursting you know he is tearing through an intense Curbside Sofa moment.

Rob Brun is a long time veteran in the southwestern Ontario music scene. He had a garage rock radio show on CJAM radio for 20+years. He still plays in 3 bands to this day. Comic relief, pounding drums and a keen sense for intros and song endings make his contribution to the band magical.

Steven Roy is the song maker, lead guitarist and lead vocalist. After getting his 1st guitar and not knowing how to play it he tuned all the strings to the same tone and accidentally kicked a hole in the cheap Sears brand amp he had to create a huge raw tone. From there Smoke on the Water never sounded so powerful. As a self trained guitarist he learned songs by Zeppelin, Rush, and ACDC before preferring to create and play originals. Playing in jazz and concert bands before his guitar days gave him his wonky rhythmic sense and ideals for song form that structure the Curbside Sofa sound we know and love.
