Bio

Longer Version -
For good friends Joe Doyen and Tom Scott, the occasional acoustic guitar jam session always included great music, a cold one, maybe two, and a certain cigar bearing the name Curly Head. The desire for a fuller, better and generally cooler sound led Tom to purchase an Ibanez electric bass guitar in late 2004.

After only one get-together using an acoustic pickup and an old dusty amp, Joe called the bet and sprung for a Gibson electric hollow bodied guitar, then raised the stakes with an ear grabbing Crate amplifier. Not to be outdone, Tom snagged a rather punchy Fender bass amp. Then, well you get the picture.

The sessions now became much more frequent and… inspired! A few other equipment upgrades followed, including the addition of a sweet sounding Martin acoustic. Two sets of songs were honed to a semi-finely tuned edge, and the name for a band was coined based on that favorite stogie; CurlyHead. At a party in the summer of ’05, the duo delivered their debut performance.

In the spring of ’06, with three complete sets plus a few extras in the tank, the band loaded up the gear and made a road trip to New Mexico, performing their first (& second) club gig at the Western Bar in Cloudcroft. More would follow, including several stints at Bullfrogs on Richland Chambers Lake near Corsicana, Texas. To be continued...

Influences of the band include guitarist and friend Marty Butorac, the one and only Jimmy Buffett, the Marshall Tucker Band, the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan, and alternative rock band Artificial Intelligence.
