Save my Soul

Written By: Neil Wise

SAVE MY SOUL

I just need some forgiveness; I just want to be pure
I’ll bleed for my salvation, I long to be cured
I want it, I need it, I got to believe it
If I confess it all to you,
Will you save my soul, make me whole

I love to be reckless, I live for the fight
But I need you to cherish, please let me spend one more night
I want it, I need it, I got to believe it
If I confess it all to you will it save my soul, make me whole
I hurt you, unearthed you, I dared to desert you
If I confess it all to you will it save my soul, make me whole

In my world, I don’t feel different
In my world, I’m always right
My world ain’t got no religion
Can it save me tonight?

I don’t mean to be precious, but I swim like a stone
You must believe I regret it; I just want to come home

I want it, I need it, I got to believe it
If I confess it all to you will it save my soul, make me whole
It rocked me, it shocked me, they mean to de-frock me
I hurt you, unearthed you, I dared to desert you
If I confess it all to you will it save my soul, make me whole
Save my soul, make me whole
Save my soul, make me whole

(The classic method of covering you’re a… once the s… hits the fan. Plead for it!)

I Betcha

Written By: Neil Wise

I Betcha

I Betcha don’t know how your cards will fall, I Betcha, I Betcha
Betcha you wanna know what life’s got in store, I Betcha, I Betcha
Two flies climbing up a wall,
One’s gonna fly, one’s gonna fall
Betcha ain’t got no crystal ball, ‘cos they don’t bounce,
I Betcha, I Betcha

I Betcha don’t know if your love’s forlorn, I Betcha, I Betcha
Betcha don’t know if you’ll be scorned, I Betcha, I Betcha
Is she gonna go or is she gonna stay
Will your love live to fight another day
Betcha don’t know if your love’s in vain,
‘til it goes down in flames, I Betcha, I Betcha

Like a volcano breaking ground, it’ll getya, I Betcha
Before a tsunami there’s no sound, it’ll getya, I Betcha
Only thing certain in life I’ve found
We’ll go down, I Betcha, I Betcha

I Betcha don’t know what I’ve been told, I Betcha, I Betcha
Betcha don’t know who sold their soul, I Betcha, I Betcha
I Betcha didn’t know that you’ve been seen, I Betcha, I Betcha
Gonna see it all on CCTV, I Betcha, I Betcha
Is he dirty or is he clean?
Is it real or is it a dream?
Betcha you’re in a place where no-one hears a scream?
But we’re watchin’ now, I Betcha, I Betcha

Like a volcano breaking ground, it’ll getya, I Betcha
Before a tsunami there’s no sound, it’ll getya, I Betcha
Only thing certain in life I’ve found
We’ll go down, I Betcha, I Betcha

(An ode to gambles of living!)

What will you leave behind

Written By: Neil Wise

What will you leave behind?

What will you leave behind?, tell me what they’ll find
Can a picture taste your lips of summer wine?
What will you leave behind, the pure essence of your mind
Tell me will Heaven ever glow more than your smile?

Footprints in the sand, Dust in the wind, bones in the land
Rolling round in laughter,’Bout some card playing disaster
Can you remember the taste of your first kiss?

What will you leave behind?, tell me what they’ll find
Can a picture taste your lips of summer wine?
What will you leave behind, the pure essence of your mind
Tell me will Heaven ever glow more than your smile?

Who has walked that road before, kicked that stone or slammed that door?
Who has seen that sky so clear, that sunset where we drank cold beer?
Can you remember the smell of your baby’s skin?

What will you leave behind?, tell me what they’ll find
Can a picture taste your lips of summer wine?
What will you leave behind, the pure essence of your mind
Tell me will Heaven ever glow more than your smile?

History books only tell so much, a video you cannot touch
Photographs may fade with time, our memories a precious diamond
Can you remember the day you went away?

What will you leave behind?, tell me what they’ll find
Can a picture taste your lips of summer wine?
What will you leave behind, the pure essence of your mind
Tell me will Heaven ever glow more than your smile?
Tell me will Heaven ever glow more than your smile?
(Just a pondering thought!)

One Kool Kat

Written By: Neil Wise

One Kool Kat
There goes one kool kat, He don’t do tit-for-tat, he wears a bad hat,
He’s on the prowl for this and that
He is one smooth dude, to smooth to be crude,
Oh but he’s so cruel, that kat’s a tiger, that’s a fact

His method is complete, always landin’ on his feet
He plays up all night, uses all his nine lives
But like a leopard on the hop, he won’t change his spots
Can’t trust the ones that you don’t see

There goes one kool kat, He don’t do tit-for-tat, he wears a bad hat,
He’s on the prowl for this and that
He is one smooth dude, to smooth to be crude,
Oh but he’s so cruel, that kat’s a tiger, that’s a fact

He always gets the girl, has her in a whirl
A panther on the floor, as he moves her out the door
If you’re asking my advice, his heart is cold as ice
Can’t trust the things that you don’t see

Feel his paw upon your skin, careful you don’t let him in
He’ll scratch your eyes, tear you apart, watch out for your heart

There goes one Kool Kat, He don’t do tit-for-tat, he wears a bad hat,
He’s on the prowl for this and that
He is one smooth dude, to smooth to be crude,
Oh but he’s so cruel, that kat’s a tiger, that’s a fact
I don’t like him he don’t like me
Can’t trust the things that you don’t see
That Kat’s a tiger, that kat is me

(Tell me I’m dreaming!)

Go with the Flow

Written By: Neil Wise

Go with the Flow

Started out swimmin’ upstream,
Do what you can, to follow your dream
Scratch and bite, hold onto your place,
Don’t let no-one get in your face
If the cards fall your way, She’ll be sweet; you’ll be on your way

Take your time, cos it’s such a long way,
Year after year, day after day
Lose some friends; you’re out on your feet
Write it off, it’s a losing streak

You hit that wall, that fork in the road
Don’t know which way you should go
You keep on punching or ya…

You go with the flow, get on with the show,
You go with the flow, you go with the flow

They want to break you, well make it clean
They want to shake you, out of your dream
They can’t make you, so you just scream…

Go with the flow, go with the flow

Don’t care much if you’re young or you’re old
Make your plans how your story is told
Take a chance, a punt if you like
Tell those who doubt you, to take a hike

Hit that wall, that fork in the road
Don’t know which way you should go
You keep on punching or ya…

You go with the flow, get on with the show,
You go with the flow, you go with the flow
Let’s go

( It’s all up to you… “make my day punk”)

Summer Rose

Written By: Neil Wise

Summer Rose

She may be young, but her mind is older
She may be sweet, but her style is bolder
But if you push, she won’t give easy
And in my heart, she’ll always please me

She wouldn’t let you know if her sky was falling
But she won’t let you cry, if you have fallen
‘Cos she glows, like a Summer Rose
And she flows, like a Poet’s Prose
As she grows, she glows
Like a Summer Rose

There may be times, when her eyes seem distant
There may be days, when no-one’s list’-ning
But from the dark, there’ll be a rising
And to my heart, it’s no surprise

She wouldn’t let you know if her sky was falling
But she won’t let you cry if you have fallen
‘Cos she glows, like a Summer Rose
And she flows, like a Poet’s Prose
As she grows, and she glows,
Like a Summer Rose

I may be old, but my faith is with you
I may be tired, but I’ll always be true
When I’m gone, there’ll be no grieving
‘Cos in your heart, you will always see me

‘Cos you glow, like a Summer Rose
And you’ll flow, like a Poet’s Prose
As you grow, you’ll flow and you’ll glow
Like a Summer Rose

Fight Fair

Written By: Neil Wise

Fight Fair

I want to love you, but you don’t fight fair
I need to need you, but you just don’t care
Take my arms, take my legs
Your heart’s so cold, you just don’t fight fair

I won’t make, no drawings in the sand
Life won’t wait, or take you by the hand
I’m no diamond, what you get is what you see
Don’t need no book tell me how to be free

Chorus

Those early hours, when we are all alone
Too soon to wake, too late to roam
Our minds race, to everything but deepest sleep
No problems solved, nothing to keep

Chorus

It’s not your time, but what more can I say
I’ve no more words, to make you face another day
If you live, too close to the edge of life
One push too far, you may slip on that knife

I want to love you, but you don’t fight fair
I need to need you, but you just don’t care
Take my arms, take my legs
Your heart’s so cold, you just don’t fight fair
Take my arms, take my legs
Your heart’s so cold, but you’ll never take my soul

(My memories of Monty Python’s Holy Grail scene somehow intertwined with the story of a desperately sad one-sided situation)

The Happy Song

Written By: Neil Wise

The Happy Song

Been deep and dark for way too long, I wanna happy song
Keep to myself, try to be strong, I want a happy song
Glass half empty I know it’s wrong
No court jester by my throne
No rabbit’s foot to bring you home
Happy song

Long black clouds keep rollin’ in, I wanna happy song
Black dog’s bark is wearin’ thin, I want a happy song
Wanna see the rainbow, not the storm
The shinin’ light your smile turns on
Not like mine that’s painted on
Happy song

Way-oh-way, way-oh-way, way-oh-way, ay-e-oh-way-e-oh
Way-oh-way, way-oh-way, way-oh-way, ay-e-oh-way-e-oh

Don’t wanna drag you down, tryin’t’ hold my ground,
I wanna happy song
Cleanse my soul at the Lost & Found, I want a happy song
Wanna put on my dancin’ shoes,
Wanna flash my baby blues
Bring out my birthday suit;
Happy song

Way-oh-way, way-oh-way, way-oh-way, ay-e-oh-way-e-oh
Way-oh-way, way-oh-way, way-oh-way, ay-e-oh-way-e-oh

Want so much to sing & dance, I’d just love to skip & prance,
Put on my fancy pants,
A happy song, A happy song, a happy song, way-oh-way
A happy song, a happy song

(Next time ? lol)

Lost in the Blue Horizon

Written By: Neil Wise

Lost in the Blue Horizon

What’s my story, well it’s complicated
Took a wrong turn & I deviated
Need an ending, to expediate it
Gotta hold onto my dream

Know you’re hurtin, I won’t leave you baby
An open book, have you read me lately
Hope you don’t mind, that I’m hesitatin’
Gotta hold on to my dream

But I’m lost, in the Blue Horizon
Lost, in the space between you and me
I’m lost, & there’s no denying
I’m ‘tween the Devil, the Devil & the deep blue sea

Lost, in so many ways
I’m lost, in my drunken haze
I’m lost, need some common ground
To hold onto, the hope I might be found

Know it’s late, it’s the witchin’ hour
All it takes, is one stray flower
My life, my fate, is in your power,
Gotta hold on to my dream, need someone who believes

But I’m lost, in the Blue Horizon
Lost, in the space between you and me
Lost, there’s no denying
I’m ‘tween the Devil, the Devil & the deep blue sea

Lost, in so many ways
I’m lost, in my drunken haze
I’m lost, need some common ground
To hold onto, the hope I might be found

That’s my story, yes it’s complicated
Took a wrong turn, I deviated
Gave me an ending, please don’t hate me
Gotta hold onto my dream, need someone to believe
I’m ‘tween the Devil, the Devil & the deep blue sea

But I’m lost, in the Blue Horizon
Lost, in the space between you and me
Lost, there’s no denying
I’m ‘tween the Devil, the Devil & the deep blue sea

(A line from a movie, a chance meeting and some dark thoughts just merged into….)

Being with you

Written By: Neil Wise

BEING WITH YOU

When I’m walking without you,
Feelin’ lost, feelin’ blue
I can’t help thinking,
I can’t help dreaming
Of my time with you

When I’m sleeping without you,
Reaching out for some truth
I can’t help thinking, I can’t help dreaming
Of a morning with you

Please give me a moment,
Just a second with you
Who knows what fate could bring
If I was with you, If I was with you,
If I was only being with you

There’s no living without you
No escape, no excuse
I won’t stop thinking
I won’t stop dreaming
No-one can keep me,
From being with you,
From being with you,
From being with you,

(A love song - to my beloved)

Tighten your belt

Written By: Neil Wise

Tighten Your Belt

Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Do your thing, show some trust
Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Have some faith, love your lust

Since the dawn of time, man’s struggled to be free
Push him in a corner, he’ll sting you like a bee
Money can’t buy you love they say, but it buys a better beer
Put it away for a rainy day, turn around, it’s disappeared

Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Do your thing, show some trust
Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Have some faith, love your lust

Keep the masses praying, blind faith in a higher being
Dream of 40 virgins, in the sands of eternity
Love our ma, respect your pa, is what their good book says
Wrap them in a loaded vest, another life just blows away

Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Do your thing, show some trust
Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Have some faith, love your lust

Yes I hear the message, reception loud and clear
“Toe the line, drink the wine, you have no need to fear”
But somethin’ in my bones says, this bell ain’t ringing true,
The Fall of Rome, the Stolen Ones, too countless to conceal

Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Do your thing, show some trust
Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Have some faith, love your lust

If we’re moving forward, how come I’m standing still,
Can’t ride a sheep’s back no more, says the land of the Dollar Bill
Take away our monuments, no problem if you fail
A million dollar handshake will be your lifetime gaol

Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Do your thing, show some trust
Tighten your belt, Lift it up, Have some faith, love your lust

Discography

Fight Fair (2010) - Debut solo album - Fight Fair is a collection of 12 engaging songs that cover a range of musical genres and emotions in an acoustic feel. They are songs that sound familiar, but still fresh & vibrant. Never failing to touch a nerve, raise an eyebrow or a smile or have you singing along after the first chorus. Curly’s tolerably intolerant views of the ways of the world will have you pondering deeply. From the haunting pulsing bass of opening track, “Save my soul,” to the deep darkness & reggae groove “The Happy Song” or the Beatlesque love song “Being with you”, exquisite production highlights the lyrical and melodic beauty of these tunes you won’t be able to get out of your head. Add to this blend the superb backing vocals from Paul Norton & the divine Miss Wendy Stapleton, you have an irresistible mix that will captivate from the first listen and for many more over time.
