"The Alley"

“Tonight I’m here to see Curmudgeon. You’d be surprised at this once Nirvana inspired band. Still in their teens, these musicians are better than most and always deliver a full sound. They have won 2 LA music awards and have been mentioned in various local print outlets. Now drifting away from the Grunge sound, Curmudgeon is seeking to further develop their musical style.
Unfortunately, The Alley is not known for its great sound. So if you are not a musician obsessed with technically perfect sound, then it shouldn’t be a bother. The musical composition and stage presence of Curmudgeon, far exceeds any lack of sound technician from the venue. All and all it was a wonderful night.”

"Vans Warped Tour 08"

Vans Warped Tour '08
The Vans Warped Tour has long been a destination for concert goers and music lovers alike. And though it has attracted a large fan base over its thirteen years, it has dramatically changed focus. While it has in the past showcased bands with the likes of: Sublime, L7, No Doubt, Beck, Green Day, The Murder City Devils, Fu Manchu, Incubus, Suicidal Tendencies, and Weezer, to name a few, the Tour has recently(and by recently I mean over 5 or more years) picked up bands that take a noticable diversion to it's once near perfect line-up.

I would list all of the truly tasteless music that has been showcased on the tour but the list would be far too long. Some say that the changing of bands is due to a new influx of fans,( which, apparently is fifteen year old kids donning mo-hawks and leather jackets, despite the heat) who have a different taste in music. Such people missed the point.

But all was not lost. While teenage girls batted their eye lashes at Tom DeLong of Angels & Airwaves, There was an occurance at the other side of the tour. On the Kevin Says Stage, a relatively unknown band christened "Curmudgeon"(www.Myspace.com/noegdumruc)breathed new light into the Festival. The music they played was noticably different then the numerous bands playing on other stages. The style of music was a throwback to bands that have played on the Warped Tour previously(Namely Fu Manchu and Murder City Devils). And they almost made the thiry dollar ticket worth every penny. Needless to say I had a conversation with the entire band and have found that they were chosen from a submission on the website Sonic Bids, which provides bands with the opportunity to create and customize an Electronic Press Kit, (EPK)< that can then be used to gain prime slots in big shows.

I was appalled to find that Curmudgeon had been playing local venues for the past four years, and that they have only now played a concert as big as this one. With the direction Music has been heading, this band is exactly what the business needs to save it.

The band is playing at a little Pizza shop appropriately named DiPiazzas on on August 29th, and I am most definantly going to attend. I can only hope this band gets the recognition they deserve in the coming months. If not, I tremble for the fate of this industry.

""Lymantria" Music review: Curmudgeon"

Only one word can describe this new and upcoming band from our very own city La Mirada. Different! Curmudgeon is a breath of fresh air. Not the same thing that teens listen to today. It is not all double bass and back beats. It is a fast, but at the same time melodic change from todays music.
Curmudgeon's new EP ( Lymantria) discography goes as follows: 1) Bellweather, 2) A Lamb to the Slaughter, 3) Cheap Disease, 4) 1,000 insects, 5) Knuckledragger, 6) What a Drag. The instrumental piece "Bellweather" is a great opening track that leads perfectly into "A Lamb to the Slaughter" The EP ends with, in my opinion Curmudgeon's best song to date "What A Drag." "What A Drag is an eight minute song that is just brilliant the whole way through.
Curmudgeon is a four piece band: Lead singer/guitarist Camron Ward, rhythm guitarist Timothy Hatch, Drummer/backup vocals Brayden Ward and Bassist , Wesley Baxter. All of them come together to make up an incredible sound. The shows these kids put on are extremely entertaining. There is never a dull moment.
If you are interested in checking out Curmudgeon, you can view their myspace web page at www.myspace.com/noegdumruc. You can listen to their music, view their upcoming shows, and even get a link to their official website.
All together the new EP by Curmudgeon is a great one. The songs are so well put together that each song can run right into the next and make for a great six song EP. - "El Toro" News By: Julian Smith

Bio

Curmudgeon is only known as the hauntingly heavy, intensely dissipating, collaboration of four young men from Los Angeles, California. Before Curmudgeon became a whole, brothers Camron Ward (vocals/guitar) and Brayden Ward (drums/percussion) began the collective action of creative force during 2004. During this time the renderings of music that would eventually become the songs “Obituary” and “Vacant Room” would emerge. Nonetheless, the Ward brothers felt their sound seemed “full, but somewhat hollow” and came to the realization that something was definitely lacking. After suffering through mishaps with two other bassists, Curmudgeon welcomed longtime friend Wesley Baxter into the band in 2005 and the three have been united ever since.
One year later, the band saw the fruits of their efforts when they won two 2006 LA Music Awards for Singer/Songwriter of the Year and Single of the Year as well as the 2006 Rock City Music Award for Best OC Band of the Year. With these successes, Curmudgeon set their sites on creating a mind shattering stage performance that they hoped would be difficult to imitate and impossible to forget.
During 2007, Curmudgeon quickly evolved into a plethora of talents and personalities with the joining of the newest and fourth member of the band Tim Hatch and the growing maturity of their sound. Once again taking the title for the 2007 Rock City Music Award for Best OC Band of the Year, and self-releasing their first 6-song EP titled, “Lymantria”, 2007 became a landmark metamorphosis for Curmudgeon.
With each new day comes a new perception of each member’s unique identity and musical taste. The inherently defined differences interwoven among the lyrics, the melody, and the rhythm create an overall sound that is unparalleled.
Today what stands before you is the anatomical thunder of the drums, the sonic synchronicity of the guitars, and the mammoth-like roar of the bass all collapsing into the belly of the beast that is CURMUDGEON.
