Bio

Curtis was born Curtis Mark McCowen Jr. on May 13 1995. He was adopted at the age of 1 ½ by his great uncle and aunt , Sam and Johnetta Brooks whom he calls mom and dad.

His first encounter with playing the saxophone occurred while in the 4th grade. The band teacher visited his class and said “If you join the band I can get you out of class.” This sound like a great idea to Curtis so he joined the school band, not knowing this would soon become his passion. He picked the alto saxophone because it shined more than any of the other instruments.

Now eight years later he also plays the soprano and tenor saxophone and has been blessed with the God given ability to play by ear and improvisation. Each Monday he spends one hour sharpening his reading skills with his music teacher. His 1 ½ to 3 hours practice daily has resulted in an awesome delivery. Many seem wowed at his sound and have called him a child prodigy. Others say “He plays like he’s been here before, playing with the greats.”

His genres of song include an array of Classic, Contemporary Jazz, R&B, Soul, Gospel, Blues and Pop.

Curtis desires a professional career in music; touching the lives of others through his music and being best saxophonist on earth. Berklee College of Music is one of the paths in life that will allow him to achieve his goal. He attended a saxophone workshop at this prestigious school, where he was able to play with and learn from some of the best musicians while improving his music theory and improvisation. His hope is to return there upon graduation from high school.
