Dave Douglas

“Community Immunity is much more than your average modern jazz album… It is a study in compression and expansion, compositional detail and improvisational freedom.”
The New York Jazz Record

“A bracing listen from a musical architect who is as distinctive and precise as he is young… If you’re an open-eared listener with a yen for forward-thinking music, you’ll find yourself wanting to crack Community Immunity‘s code.”
Ottawa Citizen

“Maybe it’s the odd time signatures, maybe the strange timbres or the meandering compositions. Something sets Curtis Macdonald’s debut album apart and challenges you to keep coming back.”
Rochester City Newspaper

“With Community Immunity, Curtis Macdonald establishes himself as one who stands apart from the rest…”
All About Jazz

Curtis Macdonald is a Alberta-born saxophonist and composer based in New York City, graduated cum laude from the New School in 2007, where he immediately became faculty. Last year he released Community Immunity, under the grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas' record label, Greenleaf Music. Curtis was listed in the 77th Annual Downbeat Magazine Reader's Poll category for Best Alto Saxophonist and his release received a nomination for a 2012 Western Canadian Music Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

His band, The Curtis Macdonald Group, has in the past 18 months toured across Canada, New York and Europe, and will be celebrating the release of another feature recording in the spring of 2013. In addition to his performance accolades, Curtis' compositional work is receiving international audience, where his latest artistic collaboration was a commission to compose an original score for the modern dance company Aszure Barton & Artists, who is touring worldwide an evening-length performance featuring Curtis' work for the next two years, beginning in Austria this Month.
