Bio

Cush Hunta – “Greens” - Kashif Omar Downs, is a dj warrior from the nineties dancehall experience, who did battle at a time when the music industry was a ‘cut – throat’ business. He fought his way on the musical scene with the overwhelming power of his voice and bar over bar style. Cush was born on February 6th, (the same day as the legendary Bob Marley) in Port Maria, St. Mary, and attended the Port Maria Primary School before journeying to Kingston. As a young adult, Cush learnt a trade in auto-body repairs, however, his lifelong ability to deejay to himself, friends and members of his community was expounded upon at several studios. These included: King Tubbys, Jammys and Penthouse. Black Scorpio however, became the studio to do his juggling between career choices.
Cush subsequently met Sugar Roy and together released his first single “Kotchulla” on the Ratchet Riddim. This was followed by other releases which were loved by fans but unfortunately, did not get much love by the media. He then decided to take charge of his career; a decision which reaped instant success with the production of his hit song “Greens” (Rasta nah feed on greens alone) produced by his own Dollar Sign Productions label. Greens made a big impact on the local music industry and got regular rotation from Reggae radio Irie FM and sister company ZIP 103 FM.
Throughout his career Cush has performed on several major events namely: Cure Fest the welcoming concert held for Jah Cure on his release from prison. The annual Rebel Salute event put on by popular and respected Reggae artiste Tony Rebel, Giants of the 80s, a cameo appearance at summer events Celebrity Wet Wet, Fully loaded and Appleton Temptation Isle. The highlight of his career to date is a performance in Canada at the Reggae Giants show where he shared stage with the likes of reggae Giants Marcia Griffiths, Ken Boothe and John Holt in August 2009. Cush is scheduled to perform on Sting 2009 dubbed ‘the greatest one night reggae show on earth’.
Currently Cush is working with various producers across the island but has been recently signed to Cornerstone Productions. This strategic partnership has seen a rejuvenation of his career after a 1 year hiatus from the limelight. Cornerstone Productions has launched a six (6) months promotional campaign for its newly signed artiste and has released two singles recently. The first, which is called 'Mawga Bwoy' is a potential hit and comical follow up to 'Greens'. A video for Mawga Bwoy has been shot and will be released soon. The second single is ‘Ready fi buss’ which has been creating waves on air and in the dancehall since its release three weeks ago.
Cush Hunta’s ability is limitless. This artiste is highly favoured and has much in store for Reggae fans across the globe.
