"New Song "Make Trade Fair" By Fundraiser Turned Rocker"

NEW SONG "MAKE TRADE FAIR" BY FUNDRAISER TURNED ROCKER
April 11, 2005 (Pawtucket, RI) Cyndy Viveiros, a fundraiser at Oxfam America, has released a song inspired by Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair campaign. The song, “Make Trade Fair” is spreading across the internet like a virus through college student groups and individuals and playing on many college radio stations. The track tackles the involved and intricate subject of international trade rules by illustrating the plight of the 25 million coffee farmers struggling to survive in the face of unfair foreign competition such as agricultural export subsidies. The release of “Make Trade Fair” coincides with the International Week of Action for Trade Justice! Beginning April 10, a global effort kicks off to raise awareness regarding fair trade and how changing trade policies and supporting fair trade products can help the world’s poor. Over ten million people are estimated to participate in hundreds of events across the world.

Singer and songwriter Cyndy Viveiros has been writing songs for over ten years. It morphed out of her poetry, a lifelong hobby. As Oxfam America’s Gift Planning Officer, Cyndy has been raising money for charities for over thirteen years." I didn’t really aspire to be a recording artist, but just wrote songs to release tension, I guess," Cyndy confesses. "Ten years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with a complete song in my head (which used to happen to me, but with poetry). The next month it happened again, and then again, and from then on, I only wrote songs, but I really hadn’t a clue what to do about this strange affliction."

When Cyndy lets her fantasies go wild, she dreams that her little song about trade rules would catch on and consequently assist the peaceful social revolution that aspires to effect change in governments trade policies and corporate and consumer practices. "It’s okay to dream, because nothing is really impossible only next to impossible," she says. Most musicians are raising funds these days. Instead of a rocker turned fundraiser, Cyndy is a fundraiser turned rocker.
