Biography

I grew up in Nova Scotia, so I definitely have some Sarah McLaughlin influences, but I am very comfortable with blues, rock, country, pop, and classical. What sets us apart is we play for the people and do whatever we have to do to impress them, which we do again and again and again.

Gifts With a Price

Gifts With a Price

Here it goes, another day of singing for her life -
Everybody’s waiting for that tune.
And they promise her the heavens when she opens up her mouth,
But then it’s June.
And years go by, and she is still surviving day by day.
Her fingers ache, and her voice is tired, but she still wants to play.
And they tell her she’s worth diamonds when she brings tears to their eyes,
But then it’s May.
And the little girl, she practices her stage-performing smile -
Cause she knows the gifts that she received come with a price, and she says:

Momma, I miss you, when you are coming home to me?
I wrote a brand-new song today and I want you to hear me.
I understand the reasons why you need to play,
And I hope you’ll be proud of me someday.

All the things in life we usually do when we are young,
Having babies, buying things, vacations in the sun.
But to pay the rent she knows no matter what the show goes on, and on, and on.
And the little girl, she smiles as Daddy kisses her goodnight,
And she dreams of that big pot of gold, if she reaches high with all her might, and she says:

Momma, I miss you, when you are coming home to me?
I wrote a brand-new song today and I want you to hear me.
I understand the reasons why you need to play,
And I hope you’ll be proud of me someday.

And she knows that she’s the best thing that ever came into her life
Even though her music still keeps calling deep into the night
And she balances the best she can, and sometimes there’s just nothing left to try.

And the little girl, she understands, and watches with big eyes -
And every moment spent with her is so much more alive.
And she’s thankful for the things she has, but still can’t fight the fire that burns inside.

I Just Won't Let You Win

I Just Won’t Let You Win

I know you say you love me, honey,
But I'm not so sure that you're showing it the way you should be,
So, you know what? I'm outta here!

How do you say you love me, baby?
When all I see is the cold look in your eyes.
My friends all say you're out to hurt me,
But I just can't seem to say those words good-bye.

I know I have to catch you at that moment -
But somehow I can't seem to let your lovin' die -

My heart's telling me to let you go.
You'll never change your ways, and this I know,
'Cause she told me what you did before -
And I just won't let you
Play me like you did to her.
I can't tell you why I went this far -
I guess this is how it ends, I'm sure,
And I just won't let you win,
No, I just won't let you win.

You made my body feel so good – ahhhh -
The only thing is that inside I know I should
Remember what my momma told me -
A player never learns to be with one woman -

I know I have to catch you at that moment -
But somehow I can't seem to let your lovin' die -

My heart's telling me to let you go.
You'll never change your ways, and this I know,
'Cause she told me what you did before -
And I just won't let you
Play me like you did to her.
I can't tell you why I went this far -
I guess this is how it ends, I'm sure,
And I just won't let you win,
No, I just won't let you win.

Bridge:
Oh, pretty baby you fooled me once before,
And now I'm never gonna let me fall for you!
Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah

I know I have to catch you at that moment -
But somehow I can't seem to let your lovin' die -

My heart's telling me to let you go.
You'll never change your ways, and this I know,
'Cause she told me what you did before -
And I just won't let you
Play me like you did to her.
I can't tell you why I went this far -
I guess this is how it ends, I'm sure,
And I just won't let you win,
No, I just won't let you win.
