Bio

“Riding round my city, my city city” yells the clean cut young man with slacks, a bow tie, and Tampa Bay Area’s signature classic sneaker, The Converse All-Star Chuck Taylors on the stage at the 3rd Annual Az1 Promotionz Awards in Tampa, Florida at the Improv! Who is this Griot you ask? He is known to his peers on stage as Dabron Kain but was born Dana Lee –Monroe Hudson on November 12, 1990, in Pine Bluff Arkansas. Although his sound is one that can be identified with worldwide, the St. Petersburg youth claims that he has never traveled far from the twin bay area cities, though he was born in the Midwest and raised in a single parent home with an older sister and an older and younger brother. Though he was raised in poverty, the 23-year-old has been into music for his whole life, but officially started rapping at the tender age of 13. In the 7th Grade, he was known in St. Petersburg as D-Man but changed his stage name to Dabron Kain as a result of cafeteria rhyme battles and freestyle sessions. Nas, Kanye West, Eminem, Tupac Shakur, Ludacris, Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and DMX are mainly the rappers that Dabron cites as influences. These pioneers fueled his vigor to compete in talent shows in high school at St. Petersburg’s Lakewood High around 2009. Dabron officially started performing at the age of 19 in college during his Freshman Year at open mic competitions and poetry nights. He was affiliated at this time with an 8-person ensemble called 1st Class and was featured on a mixtape they released on Dat Piff.com called “1st Class Premier,” however the band disbanded a year later in 2011 due to creative control and differences. Following this mutual disbanding, Dabron continued to do music solo and was introduced to the Tampa Hip-Hop scene on a larger scale that same year. Although he worked on a solo mixtape for a few years, Dabron made the decision to scrap it and make an official album called “Raising the Glass Ceiling” which is set to drop as early as the end of 2014 or early 2015 at the latest. In 2013, Dabron formed his band called “The Souls of Skopos” which consists of his guitarist Abdiel Medina, his brother Lariel Medina on drums, vocalist and his fiancee’ Doralisset and a few new additions in the process of hoping onboard with the band. The Souls of Skopos has won numerous showcases and competitions and are still looking to add a few musicians to the band. Also in 2013, Dabron formed his own promotion team called Powerline AFX Productions. The team is made up of Hip-Hop artists: Tone Kapone, Blu JD, No-Alias, Singer Doralisset, fashion designer/hairstylist Latoya Collier (L. Cheire), and D.J. Spaceship. Powerline AFX Promotions created two successful events in 2013 called “Ignite the Mic 1 and 2” in which was a performance competition series. This past year in Az1 Promotionz’ 3rd Annual Music Awards, the event was nominated for Best Movement. Dabron Kain was nominated as the best male Hip-Hop artist in both the 2013 and 2014 Az1 Promotionz Music Award Ceremonies. Dabron’s current single on iTunes is called “City Bus Diaries” featuring Jariah Higgins, which will be on his upcoming LP “Raising The Glass Ceiling”. On a personal note, Dabron is currently engaged to his girlfriend of 3 years and bandmate Doralisset Tirado who he met and started dating in 2011. Dabron’s ethnicity is Black with Persian, Jewish and West African ancestry on both sides of his family. The self-described "Illest Introvert" had aspirations to be a singer until puberty took away his singing voice, however, he is currently taking vocal lessons to try and re-strengthen his singing voice. Dabron describes his style as lyrical storytelling combined with diverse flows, metaphors, and punchlines. His style can also be described as Hip-Hop with an alternative feel. His band (Soul of Skopos) has a multi-genre sound made up of Hip-Hop, R & B, and alternative rock. The content of Dabron’s music can be described as uplifting, enlightening, remeniscent of the trials and tribulations of everyday people, rebellious to the corporate and political establishment, anti-materialistic, faith, and Pro-Christian, or sometimes just lyrically competitive for his peers in Hip-Hop. In other words, all perpetrators beware, because in the near future, Lyricist Dabron Kain will both be raising and shattering the glass ceiling on his road forward to success!
