Da Camp: Reconstructing Miami’s Music with A New Sound

Da Camp is an amazing Hip-Hip group from Miami, FL consisting of 7 members, LUCCI, ZYTO, PREZ P, JBENJAMIN$, $EÑOR FRE$CO, FAERRARI, and AMANI J. Best known for being refreshing and unique, their sounds come together as that of a symphony, each rapper being a different instrument with their own distinct resonance. The quality and style of their music takes you back to a time when music was pure and fun.

Growing up together in the North Miami area and being long time friends, it was easy for the young men to merge together and form a musical alliance in 2009. Allowing them to network and do features with other local talents such as Reese Head, and Young Fresha. Since joining forces, Da Camp have released two mix tapes titled “7 Day Weekend Campin Out in An RV” and “Bumpin Old Cool”, performing songs from the mix tape at local colleges, popular South Florida nightclubs such as “Play”, and open mic nights, where judges have said, “Da Camp are a breath of fresh air for Music in Miami, and for Hip- Hop in general”.

Da Camp members are such a meting pot; much like Miami they represent the whole Caribbean. Group members are of Dominican/Puerto Rican, Jamaican, Bahamian, and Haitian descent. Some of them were born in different states and even different countries, but they all have found a way to unify their sound while still remaining true to their individualities. This is how they have created their own musical “swag” far different from what you expect from a Miami artist.

Often compared to A Tribe Called Quest and Outkast, because of the soulful beats Da Camp frequently uses in their music, but this does not stop them from being influenced by some of their other favorite rappers such as Trick Daddy and Too Live Crew who were best known for their explicit down south lyrics. These down south lyrics can be heard through out Da Camps mix tapes with a revolutionary twist much like Tupac, while still having a cool, calm, collected essence like that of Curren$y.

Da Camp is currently working on several projects which include music videos for singles from their newest mix tape “VII Day Vacay”.
