Bio

Musicians Josh Lerner, Phil Andrews and Maggie Schreiner first met in the Brooklyn-based radical marching band Rude Mechanical Orchestra, an activist street band. late 2011, with the addition of guitarist Lior Hadar, they took to the basement of Flamingo Palace to rehearse and emerged to play the 2012 JFEJ Purim party, a radical queer Jewish institution. They have released a 9 song album entitled "Too Sensitive" via Bandcamp, have toured the Mid-Atlantic, the Northeast and Canada, and played various local venues and houses in the queer scene of Brooklyn.

If Lior Hadar's jagged, angular guitar chords remind you of Johnny Marr on a jazz kick, that's because he spent years training as a jazz guitarist while listening to the Smiths. He and bassist Phil Andrews spend hours in free-form sessions in the Flamingo Palace basement, as well as trade riffs via email. Hadar also plays in the three piece queer punk band Kitty and the Fags, appears as a solo artist under the name Music Was My First Gay Lover and played guitar in the popular off-Broadway musical "The Material World."

Andrews is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who has written and arranged music for the radical marching band Rude Mechanical Orchestra, the bluegrass/doowop/punk group Apocalypse Five & Dime, the junk boat art collective Miss Rockaway Armada and the End Times Brass Band. His bass playing owes a clear debt to the hardcore scene of the early 90's, postpunk stalwarts Fugazi and Dismemberment Plan, as well as disco and new wave of late 70's/early 80's.

Josh Lerner is a well known vocalists in the Brooklyn scene, often singing at cabarets and underground punk musicals. He came to Brooklyn after a three year stint as a singer in one of Kansas City's most notorious gay cabaret bars. His distinctive, soaring vocals and unique style have earned him comparisons to David Bowie, Thom Yorke and David Byrne.

Maggie Schreiner came to Brooklyn by way of Montreal, where she played drums in the seminal queer punk band Double Dip. Her percussive style has roots in the post-punk movement, particularly the new wave/dance punk revival of the early 2000's.
