Gospel Recording Artist~ AJ Olden
AJ Olden (Alphonza Danard Olden) is an inspired and motivated Hip-Hop gospel recording artist. His focus is to inspire and encourage the youth not to hold back on their gifting and its fine to express their gift to the Lord the best way they know how. In this life we experience good as well as bad but you can’t allow that to stop you from living. Through his music, he wants to encourage everyone that if he can make it so can you. Continue to trust God and use your gifting to express what God has done for you. There are souls waiting in great anticipation for your message.
He was raised by his mother Ethel Olden who is a strong Bible-believing woman that taught AJ to serve God in all he did. She sang in a small gospel group at her church, Union Springs A.M.E Zion where AJ was raised and began his passion to serve as a steward in the ministry for the Lord. AJ’s father very rarely spoke of God and is very much into classic and soul music. This musical lifestyle was very intricate within AJ’s development and has played an important part throughout his childhood that brought out his creativity in the hip hop music genre.
Testimony
Throughout AJ’s childhood he faced several issues which shaped him as a man of God today. The death of his grandfather in 1998 to kidney failure and later that year the separation of his parents after approximately 20 years of marriage devastated him. In 1999, he lost his close friend Brian Baker in a tragic car accident. With all the events seemingly weighing him down, he turned to the very thing his grandfather always spoke highly of, GOD. He began to write music until he became completely engulfed in his craft. These series of events allowed AJ to become serious about his career as a rapper and also served as a survival mechanism to cope with life issues.
In November of 1999 AJ gave his life to Christ at Union Springs. He began to work more in ministry and became actively involved in the growth of the youth in his church. It was then God began to speak to him regarding his gift for the Kingdom. Not knowing what to do with the assignment God had given him, AJ ran from the idea of what God had designed for him.
In 2002, AJ was introduced to his present pastor and spiritual advisor, Apostle Timothy Bailey. He began attending what is now Success N Life Church in Monroe, NC. Apostle Bailey taught the attributes of God to AJ and it was then he knew that his gift would crossover into the Kingdom. AJ began writing and performing Christian Hip-Hop music under the stage name “The Definition” from that point on.
Ministry
The multi-talented producer Dietrich “D Grady” Grady helped him create a unique approach which is forever evolving. This allowed him to record his highly anticipated first album entitled “Broken Not Beaten” in 2012. He also worked with two additional close friends on the project; Michael “Mike Rich” Richardson and Randal “Prep Boy Swiss” Threat. Also instrumental in adding their gifts on the album are Ericka Witherspoon, JJ Tillman, Ray Cureton and Earl Daly. This project tells his story of deliverance and urges listeners to restore a positive outlook on their relationship with God while evoking a mixture of soul stirring powerful songs of praise.
AJ’s objective is to change the lives of individuals using his God given musical abilities. He wants to impact the world and inspire this generation to take back the Kingdom while creating a platform for the younger generation to use their voice and talent to proclaim the gospel and not withhold their praise to God.
