"ProgPlanet"

Daedalus, are a new leaf/ branch on the fine tree of releases from ProgRock Records!
In their own words (according to the newsletter) they started working on their material
drawing inspiration from such bands /artist as: Queen/ Dream Theater/ Iron Maiden/
Rush & Arena.
Daedalus hails from Italy and one can surely hear their inspiration source especially
that of Dream Theater, with little hints of Rush, Arena...also may I add, the sometimes
frantic staccato and fills guitar of Andrea Torretta reminds this reviewer of Saga´s Crichton!
First of all I must admit, when a band get the label "Progmetal" I tend to get nervous,
defensive and in a no can do mood!! However I must admit, that this is the exception to
the rule. It is quite an amazing album these guys have created, im pleasantly surprised
with the superb delivery musician, composition and productionwise!!
Well, one could argue that not much is new, under the sun. Still these fine musicians
deliver strong performances from the word go:
Track #1 "Waiting for the dawn" a nice keyboard laden intro, gliding into "Perfect Smile"
a heavy powerful staccato tune, with excellent lead vocals from Davide Merietto, backed
by the superb guitars, keyboards, bass & drums of the band. Great stuff!
"Life" thunders along with plenty vigour and time signatures, to keep everyone happy!
"Hopeless" another fine staccato guitarchord induced song, yet again Merietto impresses!
"Cold Embrace" a beautiful ballad.
"the Never Ending Illusion" excellent powerrock stuff with breaks, counterpoints and there´s
that Crichton (Saga) inspired guitar technique again!!
The rest of this fine albums music, are for you to find and find out, when you buy it...
and YOU MUST!!
I for one are very pleasantly surprised and this is one album, that for certain will be
sitting in my cd player for a long time after you read this my dear progfriend.
On a final note, the last track "Mare Di Stele" (as the title somehow reveals) are sung
in Daedalus´native language...a beautiful track!! - www.progplanet.com/

Bio

Daedalus is a prog metal band from Genoa, Italy.
The first core gathered in 2000 following an idea by Fabio Gremo, who proposed to Andrea Rinaldi and Giuseppe Spanò to set up the band.
They started working on their songs drawing inspiration from different musical genres and bands as Queen, Arena, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden and Rush, all the same trying to define a peculiar style and sound.
In 2002 they welcomed singer Alessio Brunetti and drummer Davide La Rosa.
The following year they recorded and published their first album "Leading far from a mistake".
In 2004 Andrea and Alessio left the band and their place was taken respectively by Andrea Torretta and Davide Merletto.
Then with renewed strength they began composing more mature and polished songs, with greater accuracy and attention to details. The band contacted professional classical musicians and the well-known vocalists Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth) and Alessandro Corvaglia (La Maschera di Cera) to record some sections.
In 2007 Daedalus went in contact with Roland Grapow, former guitarist in Helloween and founder of Masterplan, who mixed the tracks and gave the band a well defined sound and a great deal of precious suggestions to improve.
In 2008 they signed with Galileo Records to publish their second album "The never ending illusion".
