Bio

Self-taught to a freakishly prolific level on guitar, bass, drums and piano.

A vocal range with a span that can only be described as 'Himalayan.'

A rock resume that’s every bit as impressive as his six-foot-six-inch frame.

Yes, with all that Dahniel Knight is, and everything he has accomplished, one would expect the music industry might be operating within the friendly (and undeniably funky) confines of his shadow by now. Instead, he’s putting his signature humility aside for the first time ever, and allowing the light to strike him square on – as a solo artist. And judging by the brilliance of his debut effort, “The Sunny Side of Razor Road,” his anonymity is about to get its ass kicked to the curb.

Born in Chicago, Knight’s musical journey is more fantastical than most. His first guitar cable was given to him by none other than Freddy Fender. As a child prodigy, he opened for such legendary acts as Earth, Wind and Fire and the Bar-kays –usually well after bedtime in his parents’ nightclub. He toured the US and China by the time he had reached his twenties. As a member of countless groups (including B!, Natural Selection and The Spectaculars), he has opened for or performed with: Oasis; The Black Crowes; Saliva; King’s X; Sevendust; New Power Generation; Jet and Fishbone. America even caught a glimpse of Knight as a finalist on the reality show, Rockstar/INXS.

“In a way, I feel like I’ve been ‘discovered’ a thousand times, but my dream has yet to take,” says Knight, with a thoughtful smile. “Part of that is me being a cook in too many kitchens, part of that is circumstance, but I figured it was time to channel my heart and my energies toward the project I call ‘me.’”

What Knight has created with his newfound self-focus is a rich, righteous blend of insight and art, of pain and poetry.
“Razor Road calls it as I sees it, and that’s that we’re all creating our own version of the big cover up,” he continues. “It might look like the picture perfect life, or love, or neighborhood, but when you look deeper – what’s going on inside ourselves, our relationships, our homes and our world is actually really dark and depressing.” Does Knight believe in finding silver linings? “Oh, f’sho,” he laughs. “I just think those are inside the storm cloud. Hopefully this album helps you get in there, get honest with yourself and pull yours out.”

It does. Track after track, time and again. And after walking down The Sunnyside of Razor Road getting to know Dahniel Knight, you'll undoubtedly agree: therapy has never sounded so phenomenal.
