Daizy Cutter: A Must-See and Hear Band

Daizy Cutter is a new, up and coming band worth attention! This five-piece group has a sound different than the latest fad of alternative music; a fad filled with screaming and whining. How many more bands do we need to hear pouting about their terrible childhoods through loud, scratchy yelling? Don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of these performers but it’s time for something fresh and new, nationally and locally.

There are so many bands getting signed to national labels that have no right picking up an instrument or a microphone yet, there they are getting air play and selling millions of records. Then, a band like Daizy Cutter comes along. Not a political band (though their name may lead you to believe they are) but a band of musicians who enjoys playing and singing. They write about what they feel. Sure, they do covers, and as I’ve said in the past, who doesn’t do them? They do a crazy version of Billy Joel’s ‘Pressure,’ that alone would be worth hearing live.

In addition to doing covers, they write their own music. The best way to describe what they do can be done with one word, ORIGINAL! Two of the originals they have, ‘True’ and ‘Daisies’ are nothing alike. ‘True,’ has a funky beat and hip sound while ‘Daisies’ has an almost psychedelic feel, reminiscent of the 70’s bands like Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath. This is definitely a band that would be at the top of the college radio charts.

Drummer, Keith Hawkins, hopes their versatile and eclectic style will help them gain the recognition they are striving for. Bassist, Drew Bolton, moved to Pittsburgh from Florida to pursue his passion for playing music, a passion shared by the entire band. Each member is committed to making a mark in the Pittsburgh music scene. Guitarist, Jim Robb, along with guitarist Chris Hafenbrack, and singer, Matt Burke, share in the thoughts and visions expressed by Bolton and Hawkins. They want to become successful musicians! At this pace, stardom doesn’t seem far off for these hard working guys.

I have seen them perform several times and it gives great pleasure to write about them! Make sure you check out this awesome band the next time they play, you won’t be disappointed!

Bio

Fueled by strong vocals, memorable hooks and crisp arrangements, Daizy Cutter engages their audience with a combination of rhythmic force and melodic artistry. Painting their sound onto the canvases created by the band’s various songwriters, the group melds its diverse backgrounds and influences into a catalog of formidable tunes.

Asked to state what type of music Daizy Cutter plays, bassist Drew Bolton simply says, “The band works together in crafting clear and succinct statements of sound. That is our goal and it transcends any consideration as to what genre in which we may be categorized.”

Consisting of Matthew Burke (vocals), Jim Robb (guitar), Keith Hawkins (drums), Drew Bolton (bass) and Chris Hafenbrack (guitar), Daizy Cutter was formed in October 2001. The band resides just outside of Pittsburgh, PA and perform most of their shows in the greater Pittsburgh area. They have just completed a four song EP entitled “Finally Here”. On September 5th, they celebrated their CD’s release by performing on Pittsburgh’s WDVE Coffeehouse and at Nick’s Fat City.
