"Live Review - The Sugarclub - June 07"

"Opening act Dali are breezy and accomplished. They resemble a folkier tighter Sonic Youth. They are guilty of playing it a little too straight at times but their slim catalogue of songs is consistently melodic and their female lead singer has a voice of remarkable sweetness" - Hotpress Magazine

"Single Review - Think Before You Think - May 08"

Four piece Indie/rock band 'Dali' lead by singer 'Deirdre Doyle' are having a busy 2008! With her gutsy 'Chrissie Hinde' voice she has an intoxicating style. With a sweet but very confident and crisp tone, she has it all! Already well on the road to success with a debut E.P. launch in 2007 behind them, 'DALI' have now launched their newest single 'BEFORE YOU THINK'!

As this number opens up you have a lovely anthemic but vital and fast guitar intro, which includes a memorable riff just before the sexy voice of Deirdre begins the verse. There's a sweet middle eight to take you into a gorgeously catchy chorus, loaded with changes and high notes to show off her range.

One daren't forget the other members of this gritty and IN YOUR FACE quartet. 'Brian Dempsey' performs bashing, throbbing rhythm and on bass, 'Micky Cullen' throws out just enough spicy riffs to tantalise you with his deep vibrant magic!

'Sean Doyle' also does a particularly memorable solo using gliding riffs and distortion. Then as Deirdre returns to the last chorus he does lots of intricate PLUCKY bits which is the secret ingredient with this band in my book. Then to create an impact, the lines of the last chorus are sung once again slowly, with a great DRAMATIC but sweet wind down to FINISH.

It's been said that this band have a 'Sonic Youth' style filtering through in their music. Wherever they get this wonderfully refreshing and new sound, it's good! 'DALI' command and maintain a devoted following and they now have a new fan in me!

Bio

Very much apart of the thriving scene that invigorates their home town of Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, Dali, together now two years, have been enjoying are series of successes finding the balance between building a fan base in Dublin and around the Country also through the release of their recent single ‘Think Before You Think’.

Having released the single in the South East of the Country earlier in the year, it got A-rated rotation on Beat102103FM as the band prepared their new material for some live shows around the Country. Traveling to Waterford and Limerick with Gavin Glass and The Holy Shakers along performances with Boss Volenti and Hoarsebox in Kilkenny and trips to Monaghan and Wicklow with Hybrasil saw Dali return to perform their best set of year so far at the Happy Valley Festival on the June bank holiday weekend in Thomastown.

Dali have always kept their foot in Dublin’s door too thanks to the Garageland Showcase gigs with numerous performances throughout last year at the Sugarclub and Eamonn Dorans. The highlight of these showcase gigs last year was Dali’s performance opening the launch night of the liveinyourlivingroom.com series to a great reception and great review by Hotpress at the Sugarclub last June. This was followed by the launch of their debut EP ‘27’ in Eamonn Dorans in July and a successful slot at the Hard Working Class Heroes festival ’07. This proved a great opportunity for the band to raise their profile and make some new fans. Encouraged by reactions, Dali swiftly returned to the studio, again with U2 and Elvis Costello collaborator, producer Leo Pearson, where they put down another four tracks.

Having successfully launched ‘Think Before You Think’ with great airplay in the South-East of the Country first, Dali then launched the single in Dublin with their first Dublin headline show upstairs in Whelans on the 25th of June this summer. The band were delighted to have Gavin Glass as a guest on a special night where they celebrated becoming the No. 1 most played Irish song on Phantom Fm’s Top Ten the week previous and fifth most played overall!

Dali have already shared the stage with both John Martyn and Republic of Loose to name just two of the acts they will again be sharing with at the Dysart Festival on 9th August this year. The band who have already started to prepare the ground work for their first album, plan to release another single in September to keep the motor running on what has been a successful journey so far!
