"Silver Birch Sessions review-Fingerstyle 360, issue 2"

Dallas Sutherland
Silver Birch Sessions
Toronto-based guitarist
Dallas
Sutherland’s debut EP
features five originals
played with passion
and strong rhythm.
While the contemporary
acoustic guitar
scene inspires his playing,
his compositions
seem more rooted in
folk and rock elements. It’s easy to imagine “Tightrope,”
and “Swan Song” being played by a rock power trio. “My
Beautiful Miss,” with its open tuning and lyrical folk-like
melody has a charming autoharp quality. Audio for all the
tracks can be sampled at his website. The entire collection
can be downloaded for the bargain price of five dollars.
CDs are also available.
We look forward to hearing more from this new talent.
Check out Dallas and the Silver Birch Sessions EP.

Bio

Fusing various styles and modern playing techniques into his original compositions and arrangements, Toronto's Dallas Sutherland is an instrumental acoustic guitarist, weaving various textures into a sound that has been described as a conduit into the soul, with the rare ability to create heartfelt, emotional music that can transport the listener to the hidden places within.

After years of exploring many different genres in rock, metal, blues, jazz and classical, with various bands, Sutherland pursued a new path as a solo guitarist in 2009, following the influence of players like Michael Hedges, Don Ross, and Laurence Juber.

Sutherland released his debut EP "Silver Birch Sessions" in 2012, produced and mixed by Cody Johnstone, with artwork and sleeve design by Martin Hunte. The collection has been earning positive reviews from critics and fellow artists alike, and in its review of the disc, Fingerstyle 360 magazine called it music "played with passion and strong rhythm", and said of one song "its open tuning and lyrical folk-like melody has a charming autoharp quality".

Sutherland perfoms steadily in Toronto and southern Ontario, and has performed at festivals including Nuit Blanche, TD Toronto Jazz Festival, and CMW.

"Dallas' guitar playing is a conduit into the soul. He has the rare ability to create heartfelt, emotional music that can transport the listener to the hidden places within." Glenn Phillips, Atlanta-based guitarist/composer

"A welcoming piece of blues-inspired guitar-playing, marrying a hard-edge style, virtuosity, and a sense of rhythm, while weaving through the spirit of Peter Green and Eric Clapton. Immaculate technique, a focused stage-presence, this is a rich and crisp sound that draws on musical traditions making every note count and ring true." Lonely Vagabond, Toronto concert reviewer

"Dallas Sutherland's solo acoustic guitar work has great tone and a great feel". Tim Brady, Montreal guitarist/ composer
