"DALLAS WAYDE & JESSE MCCARTNEY AT UNIVERSITY OF UTAH"

Wayde, a local pop artist, opened for McCartney last night. He released his first album “So Young & So Damaged” in 2018 following a hiatus from music, but he initially hadn’t intended to release it. “I was done with music at the time,” Wayde said. “I ended up putting it out and it became the highest streamed thing I ever had.” The album kick-started his return to music and landed him the opening slot at this years homecoming concert. Dallas Wayde brought his A-game with a lively, mixed-genre performance that had fans jumping, dancing and cheering throughout. He performed songs from “So Young & Damaged,” including his hit song “Even Her,” a new country single “Songs About You,” and a cover of Khalid’s “Saturday Nights.” Wayde was animated on stage and performed like a seasoned artist who never misses a beat. His high-powered energy kept the crowd engaged, and left them wanting more when it was over. - The Daily Chronicle

"LOCAL HOT MUSIC REVIEW"

DALLAS WAYDE
SO YOUNG AND SO DAMAGED
Street: 02.18
Dallas Wayde = The Chainsmokers + The Dean’s List

Filled to the brim with upbeat melodies and emotional lyrics, Dallas Wayde sounds like he was created in a lab with the sole intent to design an artist for the top 40 mainstream pop charts. With the release of So Young and So Damaged, he continues to bring a pop-heavy sound with hip-hop-style vocals, EDM beats and beautiful vocal backing on a few tracks from Ashley DeWitt and Briana Marin.

So Young and So Damaged opens with “Where You Want Me,” a track whose beat opens like a downtempo version of “Fake Love” by Drake. The song continues with a mellow, groovy beat and airy vocals. The album fades into its second track, “Run Me Over,” with an infectious, funky beat with a great bass line and plucky guitar that lingers in the background of the track.

The album continues to fade in and out of itself, bringing made-for-radio-sounding tracks, but So Young and So Damaged does hiccup from time to time with sounding a little too manufactured and trying to replicate what has been hot on the charts. The main culprit of this is the track “Crossfire,” which, I will admit, starts with a great, distant saxophone that then is immediately substituted for a violin-string beat and light, floaty drops, leaving the song sounding way too similar to The Chainsmokers’ “Closer.”

Dallas Wayde excels in his tracks that don’t sound influenced by radio mega hits, and his lyrics are able to share compelling stories while also providing choruses that are catchy and memorable. So Young and So Damaged shows that Dallas Wayde has great promise as a pop/hip-hop artist, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you started hearing his name more in the future. –Connor Brady - SLUG Magazine

"LIVE MUSIC PICK"

Dallas Wayde:
Tattooed, talented and tortured is the aesthetic 21-year-old Dallas Wayde portrays in his pop music. His album So Young & So Damaged debuted in early 2018, attracting a formidable fan base in his hometown of Salt Lake City. While all artists struggle, Wayde uses his platform to advocate for issues such as depression and equality in today's youth, transmitting these messages with emotional power. His struggle shows in his powerful yet playful song lyrics, which plenty of locals clearly relate to—this show was sold out several weeks in advance. Wayde began his musical career by winning a singing competition in his youth, then moved on to work with prominent producers Jonas Jeberg and Marlin "Hookman" Bonds. He took a step back from the music world after being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, working on self-growth while finding his identity. During this time, Wayde wrote So Young & So Damaged, putting surprising heart into his art and opening up a fresh new chapter as a person and a musician. Anxxiety, one of the three openers for Wayde, describes itself as "happy-sad music," but that mix of emotions fits seamlessly here. Adalaide, another opener, has been compared to Halsey and Lorde and will haunt you with her vocals. &rew will also make an appearance with his unique vocals. These four artists kick off 2019 with a heavy-hearted, honest and open bang. (Kara Rhodes) Kilby Court, 741 S. Kilby Court, 7 p.m., sold out as of press time, all ages, kilbycourt.com - City Weekly

Bio

Dallas Wayde is an American Pop Artist from Salt Lake City, UT. He released his debut album 'So Young & So Damaged'  in early 2018, which brought in just over 500,000 digital streams in the first few months. Connor Brady, of SLUG Magazine, wrote Dallas Wayde sounds like he was created in a lab with the sole intent to design the perfect artist for Top-40 and mainstream radio."  Dallas, equipped with a charismatic personality and a stage presence far past his years, describes his music as the crossroads of upbeat melodies meeting emotional lyricism.

After kick-starting his career by winning a national singing competition and earning a major label recording contract as a teen, he started gaining his momentum as an artist. Since the age of 14  he's be invited to play nation-wide, varying in settings from The House of Blues to Pride Festivals.  In this Dallas found his home is on stage connecting with fans. . He worked with some big name producers such as Jonas Jeberg and Marlin "Hookman" Bonds. When Dallas turned 17 years old he was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, and he began a struggle with anxiety. As he said in an interview with MIX 105.1 "I felt stuck, you know? It was almost like everyone expected me to be something that I wasn't, but I guess it's hard to tell the difference when you don't really know yourself in the first place."  This lead to him taking a break from music and spending some time growing as a person rather than an artist. As he got to know himself and started to build a sense of identity, he used music as his personal outlet instead of just writing what he thought people wanted to hear in a hit song. These songs eventually turned into the album 'So Young & So Damaged' and opened a new chapter of his career.

Dallas Wayde, now 21 years old, has developed a solid team of creative talents that understand his vision. The team is constantly working on creating new content and performing shows around the country, all while transitioning to the next step of their journey. He hopes that what he writes down will resonate with the other youth around the world and he can make them feel a little less crazy, A little less alone, and a little more happy.
