Bio

Damar “D Powers” Howard was born in San Antonio, TX, August 23, but was raised in Norfolk, Va. As a child Damar was very actively involved in music. He grew up with a very challenging childhood. After getting in trouble by running the streets, D Powers took a different approach to life and moved back to Texas to live with his grandparents. Church became a very influential part of his life. Through outlets such as his school and church choirs it was clear music was something he was going to do for the rest of his life.

Bodyrockin' Music, which was founded in 2000 by D Powers, was a result of his relationship with Sony. In 1997 D Powers had a demo deal with EPIC/Sony as an R&B artist under Mark 1 Management based in Austin, Texas. Through that experience he developed a burning desire to be able to assist D Powers as a producer/artist, as well as upcoming artists, to succeed in the music industry while allowing them the opportunity to maintain a measure of creative control.

The Bodyrockin' Music signature sound is made up of elements such as Urban R&B, Hip-Hop, Rap, Rock, Pop, and Drum-N-Bass which D Powers calls “Ghetto Rock South”. It is the joining of these genres that gives Bodyrockin' Music the cutting edge ability to tap into any mainstream market. The long-term goal for Bodyrockin' Music is to become one of the largest and most diverse production companies in the world. Bodyrockin' Music is a platform for both artists and producers to develop their talent in all genres of music which will create soul searching, crowd pleasing, head bobbing hits specifically designed with the artist/producer influence.

D Powers who has been donned “The Ghetto Rockstar” is known for his ability to innovate people’s creativity with his experience in producing, song writing, and all aspects of the music business. In 2001, the group Homegrown that D Powers produced debuted at #8 in the world on MP3.com’s Top 20 rap list for the song "Marijuana", which was featured on D Powers What Is Love solo album. During the months of December, January, and February of 2000-2001 Bodyrockin’ Music produced two #1 selling albums: What is Love (Best R&B Album) and Bodyrockin' Music Vol. 1 (Best Overall Album & Hip-Hop Album). These albums were the best on Mp3.com out of 300,000 artists both independent and major. In 2004 D Powers had his first credit for a song he wrote and produced called “I Know” on a TV show called Dawson’s Creek that was not only aired in the U.S. but in Great Britain where D Powers song was used.

As far as 2006, D Powers has taken extraordinary steps to promote his latest album called The G.U.G.U. Album which means “Get Ur Game Up.” The album created a huge buzz about his amazing signature sound and talents as an artist as well as his development with all the artists he produced for. The G.U.G.U Album helped boost the career of several artists such as Bavu Blakes. Bavu Blakes released the 12-inch vinyl “Nobody Leavin” produced by D Powers which was heavily promoted and widely embraced. The Austin Chronicle praised D Powers by stating, “Producer D Powers provides the launching pad to Blakes lyrical stratosphere.” The vinyl, which included Paul Wall on the B side, spawned unstoppable hype about D Powers production and raised eyebrows internationally for D Powers as an upcoming, innovative and monster producer hitting the scene.

While in the Bahamas, attending the Power Summit to promote The G.U.G.U Album and the 12-inch vinyl “Nobody Leavin”, D Powers linked up with internationally known artist, Zoel, from Argentina. D Powers crossed cultural boundaries by fusing his Ghettorock sound with the organic instrumentation from the heart of South America to produce such tracks as, “Let’s Play”, “Bounce”, and “Do it Again”. D Powers is the main producer on Zoel’s album along with featured producers Midi-Mafia (most famous for producing 50 Cents hit 21 questions), who produced songs on her debut album as well.

2006 proved to be equally groundbreaking for D Powers on the performance end. D Powers brought the heat to South by Southwest Music Festival and let his presence be known to the music industry through his performance and networking. D Powers extended his reach as a performer even further by joining forces with Zoel in Las Vegas to rock the Burnlounge Burnout Show which, once again, let the music industry sample what happens when a non-stop pulsating all around performer comes together with hot talented artists from all genres of music.

In 2007 the career-driven D Powers is pushing the pedal even harder in this race to reach new audiences, new artists and industry professionals who have influenced his music to go even further. D Powers has produced for Sony artist Ray Cash, Virgin artist Che’Nelle, whose highly anticipated debut album drops September 2007. D Powers is close to completing his next compilation album titled, D Powers World, which is set to be released early Fall 2007. D Powers
