"Damon Lamar Prophetic Sound Review"

The answer to today's resurgence of the hip hop emcees has come. Damon Lamar's first major cd release "He Heard My Cry" comes on the scene like no other in the Christian rap ministry today. No crunk here, just true to the art of underground and the elements of hip hop as they come. Damon's story is profound in how he started his career in hip hop. An aspiring artist was lead to the Lord in his pre teen years and introduced to Christian rap. While attending art school he became friends with well-known rapper/producer Kanye West where he learned the skills and techniques of flowing. How many times have I repeated track #4 "Spiritual Girl"? Your guess is good as mine.

For those who live the life of hip hop in music this one is for you.

"Damon Lamar kay3music.com Review"

Rhyme Artist Damon Lamar has come at us with a joint that no doubt will be talked up by every listener. Damon's artistic flow is taking hip hop to another spot. Though biblically sound, his lyrical flava is artistic in nature. The boy can create scenes with just one word.

You'll get busy with "Who told you the lie", "This ain't that", "Knew it all" & "Believer". With honorable mention to "Spiritual Girl"...props to a brotha try'n 2 keep it straight.

With shoutouts from DJ Sean Blu, Kanye West & Verbs (Knowdaverbs), sho nuff, Damon has garnered the respect of his peers. "He Heard My Cry" is not meant to tickle, but encourage the strong and strengthen the fickle....one way or another, Big Baby.....pop what the brotha dropped....

Damon Lamar: He heard my cry

This cat can relate to street pain. Hit'n on issues that need addressing with attractive original and some secular beats. "He heard my cry" is nice, mixing that old slavery sound. "Foundation" contains some strong truths about growing in Christ and letting sin go, with that old Teddy Pendergrass "TKO" beat. - thechristianrapper.com

"Damon Lamar WTW Mag. Review"

Damon Lamar: He Heard My Cry

If you think east and west coast are the only catz who are representing Christ in Christian hip hop you are wrong!! This month we take a trip to the Chicago area to check out Damon Lamar. Captivating and cutting edge are just one of the ways to describe Damon Lamar's artistic abilities in the areas of music and visual arts. A casting call for the role of a rapper in a high school play was the beginning of the musical career of this dual artist.
A scholarship to the Harvard career discovery program and three consecutive years at the national N.A.A.C.P-ACT-SO awards led to Damon developing life changing relationships with fellow recording artist "Pugslee" Sterling ,producer/ recording artist Kanye West and business partner/ visual artist Moses X Ball. "I would have never imagined that the people that I was in direct competition with, would be a essential and important part of my artistic development today" says Damon Lamar.

A lyric's course assisted him in the connection of his artwork and music for the very first time. " I began to realize that my paintings and music could be used to say the same thing in different ways". The School Of The Art Institute Of Chicago graduate continued refining his musical talents through the recording of demos and live performances. A diverse list of musical influences from Donny Hathaway, Kirk Franklin ,Curtis Mayfield, Mary Mary, Outkast, Creed, Nelly Furtado, Musiq, Nas, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tonex have helped him create a formula for uniqueness in his music. A solid foundation in his musical career was built on his independent release "Follow The Leader".

The current project entitled "He Heard My Cry" is part rap, part soul, part street and all spiritual. Standout tracks on the project are "This Aint That " which defines that hip hop music can be vital and positive and "Spiritual Girl" a track that leaves no doubt about a serious God inspired and faithful search for a future wife. " Believer" the thought provoking track that delivers a unspeakable stand of faith and the title track "He Heard My Cry" gives a personal account of life's tribulations and triumphs with a old school spiritual sound. " He Heard My Cry" is a quality project with a soulful sound that pays homage to the past and lyrically pushes the envelope into the next era of hip hop. - wtwmagazine.com

"HHP Through Tachyacardia"

NASHVILLE, TENN. – The Butterfly Group’s label Tachycardia is releasing three holy hip-hop projects in their third catalog of 2004: Damon Lamar’s debut project He Heard My Cry, which releases June 15, 2004, Mr. Del’s first full length project, Mr. Del Presents Holy South Worldwide on June 29, 2004, and Spec, an international rapper, will release his solo project, In Your Eye, July 20, 2004.

“He Heard My Cry is like a self-portrait,” shares Lamar. “When you look close, you see all of the scars and blemishes. When you take a step back, it’s a beautiful picture. When you listen closely, you hear the struggles. When you take a step back you see the whole person that is Damon Lamar.”

Chicago native Damon Lamar breaks the rapper stereotype from the beginning of this release with the infectious tune ‘This Ain’t That,’ where he declares ‘this ain’t that hardcore rap you’re used to/I ain’t gonna stab ya’/I ain’t gonna shoot you…’ With that, Lamar combines his thought-provoking and often humorous lyrical content to take you on a journey, where he shares the lessons he’s learned, the struggles he’s faced, the victories he’s won and the confidence that he’s received from his faith in Christ. He Heard My Cry contains sixteen powerful songs. It releases June 15, 2004 to the CBA marketplace. - manhunt.com
