Biography

Dana Leigh began her musical journey shouting rock and metal songs in her best friend's barn at 13 years old. My, how times have changed! Now her smooth voice sings gentle melodies with deep emotion in a style inspired by folk and jazz. She captivates audiences with her beautiful music, sincere lyrics, and candor on stage.

Dana Leigh really started pursuing music after a move to Dallas, Texas, where she began playing solo at small clubs and cafes with her sister, Vanessa, on bg vocals, making home recordings, and taking music courses at Collin College.

At Collin, she met drummer Michael Ruiz at an audition, and they got into the same jazz band. She met bassist, Jesse Thompson at Collin as well. Then Michael started playing drums with Dana outside of school, and a 3-song demo for a friend's audio engineering project turned into a 12-song album. The album, Come to Life, was released in October 2010.

Dana recently started going to Belmont University, and currently divides her home between Dallas and Nashville.

Her goal is to write songs that make you think, make you feel, and show you the beauty in both joy and sorrow.

Not just a pretty face with a pretty voice, but a uniquely skilled guitarist and songwriter as well.

Girl with a Rose on Her Shoulder

Written By: Dana Leigh

The girl with a rose on her shoulder
The man with his eyes on her skin
She fills up her lace with the money she makes
But there's something amiss deep within

The man in the church in the corner
The preacher who counts all his sins
The man takes the shame but the preacher’s the same
If he’d only admit what he did

Everyone wants to be loved, loved, loved, loved

The boy who’ll be strong when he’s older
When he puts on the mask of a man
The boy’s still inside, and he longs just to cry
It’s been years since they told him he can’t

The woman with scars that adorn her
Like the flowers that rest in her hands
The question was "why?" as she said her goodbyes
With a breath of an aerosol can

Everyone wants to be loved, loved, loved, loved

Love! (x8)

The girl with a rose on her shoulder
She packs up and puts on her clothes
For the love of a man with scars in his hands
Who knows she's more precious than gold

The Sand and the Sea

Written By: Dana Leigh

Ever since the day I learned your name
I woke up and life is not the same
Like a star that fell down from the sky
You came to me and I don’t know why

You are the sand and I am the sea
Somehow, I know you were made for me
Ba da dum, ba da dum...

Ever since the day you took my hand
I’ve been walking in a different land
A place of wonder; I can not let go
Nowhere else has ever felt like home

You are the sand and I am the sea
Somehow, I know you were made for me
You are the sand and I am the sea
What brought us together? I think it was gravity
Ba da dum, ba da dum…

Sidewalk

Written By: Dana Leigh

Wait, it’s not too late
Wait, it’s not too late
Weeds will continue to grow
As long as we continue to go
So wait
Just stay

Explain, how can i explain?
Say, what can i say?
Thoughts will continue to grow
As long as we leave this alone
So say
Just say

I can relate to the cracks in the sidewalk
I can relate today
I can relate to the cracks in the sidewalk
I can relate

So wait, please stay
So wait, please stay

Thoughts, like weeds will continue to grow
As long as we ignore and continue to go
So wait, please stay
So wait, please stay

What Happens Next

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Dont know how to feel
dont know what to say
dont know where to go
everything has changed

my place in this world is so hard to find
i wish i didnt have to wonder why
im waiting for this thing they say will come in time
its that moment by which everything in me is defined

i'm floating in between
i'm standing at the edge
grasping for my dreams
and hoping for the best
someone tell me what happens
tell me what happens next

i'm facing a fork in the road
a knife is at my back
they tell me to take my time
but i'm feeling trapped

i wanted to carve a path that's only mine
but i can't see clearly and i wonder why
im waiting for this thing they say will come in time
its that moment by which everything in me is defined

i'm floating in between
i'm standing at the edge
grasping for my dreams
and hoping for the best
someone tell me what happens
tell me what happens next

i wish i knew where this life of mine was gonna go
but it's true, even the wisest mind can never know

i'm floating in between
i'm standing at the edge
grasping for my dreams
and hoping for the best
no one can tell you what happens
let's see what happens next

Stranger

Written By: Dana Leigh

STRANGER

once when i was little
i dreamt about a house i could call my home
a place where people knew me
my neighbors had a family, i wouldnt be alone

i wish i had my memories
embedded in some hallway, scratched in the floor
but no, they're only memories
without form or figure, soon to be no more

so i wander, and i wonder why
i'm a stranger, even when i look in my mother's eyes

i wonder why, oh why, oh why, i wonder why

now i've gotten older
my dreams have long since shattered, my dream is false
i have friends in every city
but i don't see where it gets me if no one ever calls

i went to california
the place where i was born and i didnt know a soul
is there a city or a town
where i can set my feet down, tie up this boat?

so i wander, and i wonder why
i'm a stranger, even when i look in my mother's eyes

i wonder why, oh why, oh why, i wonder why

i have no roots to trace
to any earthly place, oh oh
i have no flock to follow
where do i go, where do i go?

so i wander, and i wonder why
i'm a stranger, even when i look in my mother's eyes
so i wander, and i wonder why
i'm a stranger, even when i look in my mother's eyes
