"Foodstuff:The Tourists by Caroline McConnel"

I looked forward to seeing and hearing the Tourists, a three member band, at Prisco's Next Door there in Aurora. That name is on each of their albums and also states "We're not from around here, we're just tourists (Dan Becker and the Tourists)." Dan Becker is indeed from around here and has been my son John's friend for many years, and I've put him to work at our Unitarian church in Geneva. He composes his own songs- some titles on the record he presented me: "Fillin' Station Blues," "Love in a Circle", "We're Just Tourists." They're a fine group, and the crowd at Prisco's were obviously regulars who constantly enjoy their music. - The Beacher

Bio

Singer/Songwriter Dan Becker formed the Tourists as a vehicle for his stories in song that chronicle life in a small town. Dan draws in styles and influences as diverse as the characters that inhabit the songs. When the undercurrent remains folk rock (as in Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and James Taylor), the band grooves ( like Little Feat), flows and jams (Allman Bros band, Grateful Dead). Other influences are Steely Dan, The Eagles, Beatles, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

Playing small venues as a trio, Dan, Glen and Gene blend acoustic guitars, bass and vocals. For larger venues, Dan enlists local drummers.

Dan and Glenn (guitar, vocals) played in HS band, in a church rock band, and later in a jazz band (Dan, Glen and Gene still play as a jazz trio). Gene (bass) met Dan at a jam session. Dan met Jeff (drums) through Gene.
